What TFA says is, people aren't using the bandwidth they currently have, so giving them more won't make a difference Tell that to Rogers as they have started traffic-shaping Bittorrent to an extremely low priority as they have been finding their network swamped.

This happened before in Canada when Sympatico decided to put a cap on their user's downloads. I can't remember what it was but it was relatively low (like 10 or 20G a month). There was a huge migration over to Rogers. I think that lasted about a month or so before that disappeared. They have since introduced a cap of around 100G but Rogers also has that as well with the extreme package(5M).
I can understand why they would want to do it as it is probably 10-20% of their users who are hogging 80% of their bandwidth (numbers pulled out of my ass but you get the idea and I would be part of the 10%).
The reason this is needed in my area is since Rogers is the only highspeed provider in my direct area which is high density, everybody is on with them. If Sympatico (a DSL provider under the Bell Canada umbrella) built a switch a little closer, I think the cap wouldn't be that big of a deal.
I think the winners in 2006 will be traffic-shaping product manufacturers. My ISP has started limiting the bandwidth allocated for P2P due to BitTorrent. I think you will find this becoming more and more common.
Hmmm. Maybe it is time to invest in one of these companies.

If the Internet Provider decides to set up bandwidth shaping to limit p2p traffic, it is going to suck.
Rogers in Canada has set Bittorrent traffic to lowest priority which for me has made it take days instead of hours to download anything. Instead of getting decent speeds, I am lucky if I get 17k. I have heard this has also affected iTunes.
Course Sympatico hasn't set up a cap (too bad I can't get DSL in my neighbourhood) but this remains to be seen..
I would say it depends. From my observations the typical female out there is not your typical geek. Mind you due to exposure to geekish roles through work/school they have become more common. But still, I think you could say that your typical female, non-geeky males and some geeky ones as well, myself included as my tastes changed when I discovered girls (no offense meant), would not be into role-playing games.
It isn't the asking that is the problem. It is the people who go out for a while and then go through a bad break up. It can cause some serious issues with the office dynamics. If someone leaves the office for another job it isn't so bad but if they have to work together it can get pretty hairy. Plus then you have the people who take sides. Granted you would expect people to have some sort of maturity but looking at how much cash divorce lawyers can bring in, there are lots of people who can't handle the situation rationally.
I spent a couple of weeks looking into what would be a good DVD player. The one I had I bought 3 years ago about now for almost $300 Cdn and it didn't even have Progressive Scan. So when I bought my TV a month ago, I decided it was time to upgrade. There were a lot that had some of the features I wanted but nothing that had everything. Then I came across an ad on videohelp.com that had the Oppo. Checked it out and found a place in Canada that sold it online. No regrets. Even the wife noticed that the picture looked "crisper" when I had it upsampling to 720p.
and it upsamples quite nicely! DivX/Xvid compliant, Pal->NTSC or NTSC->PAL, DVI output (plus comes with the cables) Best $250 Cdn I spent in a long time after I bought my Sammy DLP.
Problem is that I demand it so your vote would be nullified. I think most people would like to have 911 on their phone. Being 911 capable is not only being able to dial but if you are able to dial but not able to speak (home invasion, allergic reation, etc) that they would be able to get to you knowing where you are.
I demand this functionality because knowing my luck, I will probably need it.
My wife got an MRI in less than 3 weeks last February in Ottawa and from what it sounds like it has only got better as they have allowed more hours a day for MRI scheduling
1 word: DVI. HDMI which is the newfangled connector is essentially DVI with Audio (oh and DRM). Since you have a machine that has DVI out you should be ok. Matter of fact there isn't a difference (well there is a difference just not a huge one) between the picture through Component and through DVI/HDMI. Now Composite is a different story.
Well I can't really tell but is that a blessing or a curs (I would say more the former than the latter)
You obviously don't watch it on a big screen though. I just bought one and looking at what DVD shrink did artifactwise to squeeze a DVD onto a 4.7G DVDR makes it annoying. I would upgrade to a Dual Layer DVD but good luck getting affordable blanks.
Nope Just get a Prism2 based card and you don't need two. SMC has a good one then you just use Airodump and Airopeek, the latest beta (2.1?) has the ability to inject and scan at the same time. Been a while since I played with it.
To be honest, I have no idea. It isn't the product I support and there is enough to know about the products I do support that there isn't time to learn too much of the other products. You would be best off contacting the sales team (or wait until Monday and I can discretely ask).
They are doing a marketing campaign right now called TokenRevolt that is supposed to be pushing Identityguard. Even RSA has mentioned it I guess although they thought it was a little cheesy but I think they kind of missed the point in the "amateurish" feel it was supposed to have. www.tokenrevolt.com
From what I have heard, we have quite a few companies and organisations that have a keen interest in this product nowadays just because of the fact there aren't any batteries needed and the much lower cost than a hardware device.
Disclaimer: I work for them (for another 2 weeks) http://www.entrust.com/identityguard/index.htm 1 credit card sized sheet is a lot easier to carry and a lot cheaper to produce than some hardware.
This a common thread. People forget doctors are people too. They are trained well but at times may miss things (From reading your post it sounded like she had never mentioned it) and may trivialize things. I know a guy who went to his doctor as he had a rash on his legs. She said it was a heat rash and it ended up being shingles.
Point is that sometimes it is best to question your doctor and get a second opinion. If it seems like your doctor is dismissing something, question them about it.
My big concern is that even though power supplies don't exhaust a lot of air normally, these silent and fanless power supplies exhaust even less or none. This would mean you need something else to get rid of the hot air which becomes another fan elsewhere so what is the point?
If you replaced IIS with Apache would that make Windows itself more stable.
Apache on windows stable? you are funny! Anyways I digress. You make a good point where the issue may not necessarily be the OS but applications on it. However since MS has interwoven IE so deep into the OS that it is not easy to remove without third party tools that it is difficult to distinguish one from the other
I have a 4G iPod and like it. I bought a Silicone case for it from Radio Shack (The Source) for $19.99CDN (compared to $39.99CDN from Future Shop) and cut a Palm screen protector down to fit the screen and it should be ok.
So either one or both agencies in question are simply incompetent, or lying to us. Which do you think is more plausible?
From that comment, you must have never worked for a govt agency. If you had, you never would have asked.

Sounds to me like they are using old flakey network cards that are starting to fail and broadcast unnecessarily

Or possibly, the computer itself is a tool that they expect to work and do not trivialize their time into such matters.

That was also the case with during the great Eastern Seaboard blackout in Ottawa. Blackberry coverage was still up here.

but how does it compare to a ATI 9800Pro? Next time I buy one I probably will get something like this.

Good question. My theory is the same why car paint isn't scratchproof; to keep the car bra manufacturers in business.
I don't seem to be getting scratches on the front it is only happening on the back and screen. The back scratches really easily as well.
