Well, Ubuntu never seemed to be designed for geeks (I'm using it for about 8 months now) - it's one of the friendliest distros for beginners (as much as I've tested different distros)
But well, a book might be a good idea - making Ubuntu even more user friendly.
First thing - it's a RC
Second thing - This RC is more like a beta:)
And well, when was anything perfect?
There's always more work to be done for everything, including vista
Well, I've been waiting for this - I mean, let's face it, about 80% of computer user use IE as their default browser. And since tomorrow, they are getting tabs, new GUI, features, features, more features security updates, etc...
Even being a long-time Firefox user, I'm looking forward to test it (ya, I know, there were betas, there was a RC, but this is the stable one!)
Short answer: yes
I mean, did 640K ever extinct? It was "enough for everyone" back then, but now...
That's what's gonna happen to iPod. It's cool and all now, but after some time it will get replaced by something even more cool. Maybe a next-generation-updated iPod, who knows...
Umm, I don't think so. Most likely it's because they don't really understand WHY they should buy them legally. Or if they do and have an opportunity to buy, they most likely don't want to spend their lunch money.
I'm afraid you didn't add any "For the lazy" or "The server seems to be going down", so I don't think you will get a 5, Informative. Nice try though...
As for me, VMware really is miles ahead - I can install it on my Ubuntu to run Vista. Or... I can install it on Windows to run Ubuntu? (never tried this).
I doubt that I could do that on MS Virtual Server.
Just because you never use Linux on the desktop doesn't mean
I do. Surprise!
It's just that about 98% of people I see on the (Linux support/talk) forums are real linux zealots. They won't use anything with closed source. They want to "kill" Ms, etc, etc. So everytime I see "Linux ready for desktop", "Linux agains MS" I write posts like that.
True. And I do dual boot ubuntu too.
But what I wanted to say was an example of an averange Joe - he walks into a computer store to buy a new PC.. And what OS does he get/request?
Awww, come on! Stack up where? Servers? Desktops? Store shelves?
Long story short: Linux on the servers, WIndows everywhere. + some zealots hating Windows and incomfortably usign Linux on the desktops.
Bye bye karma...
Well, no-one is forcing you to test it. If you don't want - you don't do it.
I, for one, am happy to be able to get something that others will get 6 months later and that will, let's face it, change the computer industry. And not just get it... Get it for free too!
Umm, no. When there's no other supported and availible to buy version of Windows on the market, and Vista's preloaded on 98% of PCs... How can selling Vista be a problem?..
It's just like, in the days of Win95, saying that selling Win98 would be a problem.
or in the days of Win98, saying that no one will ever buy XP.
No, you do not do that. A dude has a problem - you fix the problem. No need to be a zealot. Unless he asks "What's app X and What is linux distribution Y" - than you migh do something about it.
1995 were calling, they want their webmasters back...
Was there any reason to create anything above 640K? I mean, wasn't it enough for everybody?!
*insert "that's the same thing I have on my luggage!" unfunny joke*
*wait to be modded +5, Funny*
???
Profit! No, wait...

Now, let's go back to our prices..
- They don't have to upgrade ALL software AT ONCE.
- They don't have to buy ALL new hardware - maybe some pcs will need 512, other - 256 mbs of RAM to be added, etc, etc...
- Did they count how much a computer costs to buy and then raise?
So, let's not count everything from zero and buy/build new pcs for vista from scratch - those number will NOT be that big in the end...For those who didn't understand.../ 1816257&tid=107

You must be new here...
I can see my house from there!

It's not just a dupe... the story is on the same page as this dupe!
Nice work editors.

True. And I do dual boot ubuntu too.
But what I wanted to say was an example of an averange Joe - he walks into a computer store to buy a new PC.. And what OS does he get/request?
The question is: how many people got spyware/adware/viruses while browsing with each of them?

So, I'm half way there downloading Vista's RC1, and a new release gets, um... released?!
