    There as a difference between saying an active ingredient is "safe and widely used" and claiming it is antibacterial. They were given time to prove it was antibacterial and they failed to demonstrate it. There is a difference between saying sugar is "safe and widely used" and claiming it prevents arthritis.

    Woman, children and slaves generally did NOT have access to open air even in the 1830s, but then they generally were on trips of up to only 5 months from England to Australia or New Zealand. I think jumping ship in the South Atlantic is not any different than stealing a spacesuit and leaving the airlock - you'll die in about the same time.

    The Russian embassy in Vienna refuses all cash payments - only electronic are allowed. I suppose this is to reduce embassy-level corruption, so i presume the corruption happens centrally in Moscow.

  15. In California, as in many other US states, voters need to register their political party choice with the secretary of state before being able to vote. Just imagine these databases being hacked.
    I think it's a good thing that Turkey has a secret ballot, otherwise many more could be in jail by now.

    Didn't people make these complaints with automatic transmission, cruise control, ABS etc? Everyone is scared that new "auto-tech" makes things unsafer and that people pay attention less. No, people get used to it and things just get better. the same will be so when all are used to autopilot.

    A server is a machine - a piece of hardware. the cloud could be anywhere on the planet and is virtualized, it is abstracted away from a server. so server is not cloud. cloud software generally doesn't know nor care about the hardware that it is sitting on.

    Electric energy generation is always more efficient than internal combustion engine. You watch, the supply will quickly come as they see demand ramping.
    Norway said if every car in Norway was electric it would consume 2-3% of their current electricity!

  25. Broadband is not like roads. It is reasonable to have 2 or 3 providers, perhaps with joint custody of the last mile. But here in California my broadband provider owns everything and can abuse us to their heart's content - I have no options and no purchasing power to make choices. it is anti consumer and anti competitive. That is why competition "police" who stand up for the citizen can be an excellent watchdog to ensure the "corps" are serving the people and not fleecing/milking them.
