Congratulations, your use case does not call for a desktop.
Mine does. Show me a laptop that can overclock to 5GHz, take dual CPUs, have dual 300W GPUs, etc.
Gaming isn't the only thing that desktops are good for;)
Forget the 840 EVO users, what about the plain old vanilla 840 TLC users? Jury's still out on the 850 EVO I suppose.
Now their Pro line is great and is all I will use.
Sadly, this is true for any successful organization.
"But the more an organization succeeds and prospers, the more it is likely to be diverted from its original ideals, principles and purposes........ Every combination of two or more human beings has both a useful aspect and a political aspect. These tend to conflict with each other. As the political aspect becomes more and more influential, the organization ceases to be useful to its members and starts using them.
Why does this happen? Because the better an organization is at fulfilling its purpose, the more it attracts people who see the organization as an opportunity to advance themselves.
The ability to get ahead in an organization is simply another talent, like the ability to play chess, paint pictures, do coronary bypass operations or pick pockets. There are some people who are extraordinarily good at manipulating- organizations to serve their own ends."
I rather like their DragonFly USB DAC/amp.
Granted, I didn't pay anywhere near $250+ for it, but for the ~$75 I got it for, it's nice, sounds good and is portable.
My other choices for use with my work provided laptop were the usual Schiit stack and Monoprice desktop amp (11567), but the DragonFly won out on simplicity.
The problem with a ~3 year Windows release cycle is that a lot of commercial / FOSS programs can take 1-2 years to stabilize on the new platform (eg. properly supporting new video renderer, 3rd party backup/imaging programs, etc.)
Not if you use a custom DirectShow filter chain to do custom deinterlacing, resizing, etc. (eg. ffdshow). I need a high-speed dual core w/HT or a medium-speed quad w/o HT for that.
Run wdidle3 or idle3tools and set the park time to 300 seconds. Problem solved.
Do NOT set it to disabled with the latest generation Reds / Greens - they do not like it in the least and you WILL get funny noises from the drive.
What on earth are you smoking? A decently clocked i3 is sufficient (CPU-wise) for the vast majority of games. A 6-year old i5/i7 would even suffice.
GPU? $200 for an R9 290, $120 for an R9 280X. That's not expensive at all for (TRUE) 1080p gaming.
Was this for their ASIC or FPGA miners?
To their credit, the FPGA miners worked well and ran reliably. Heard some grumblings about the bundled power bricks, but don't know about that since I ran mine off of a regular PSU.
Yo dawg, would you like a douche in yo douche?

Wrong. Correct choice is to vote for Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho.

Might be possible. I CPU decode pretty danged near everything at the moment in order to take advantage of custom DShow filters in ffdshow.

And who exactly do you think does the physical design implementation and fabrication?
Been using this version forever (or at least since the horrible bloatware that was 3.x). Works fine, is lightweight, no complaints.

Isn't that what posting AC is for?
Bandgap engineering baby. It's magical stuff, eg. strained Si to increase mobility.
Hey, it could happen...

I'm Chinese, and even I don't know what the Firefly cast is saying 90% of the time they attempt to speak Mandarin,

Since we have a Backblaze staff member here, can I ask why did you guys not test Hitachi's 6TB drives?
Looks like their infamous CSM team strikes again

I'm rather more concerned with his/her managerial competence, provided that they are decent enough technically.

I got in early on a bunch of their FPGA miners. Made obscene money mining and a tidy profit after I sold them and decided to quit mining.
