    I'm using FF 3.0.11 on Jaunty with history disabled, and it did not get anything from my browser even though the "recently closed tabs" menu has many entries in it. All i got was a black square. I also had to tell NoScript to allow their domain. This made me feel better about my paranoid ways!

    Knowing Sony they'll come up with a new proprietary hardware format and given their history, odds are not in favor of its survival.

    Excuse me, but where have you been these last few years?? Living under a rock? No... i remembered now, trolls like to live under bridges. The latest Sony entertainment hardware is more open than you could expect, using as many standard technologies as possible. It's so obvious that i won't even GTFY.

    Exactly! How hard can it be to add a GPS/GPRS/UMTS/whatever chip and antenna on the thing and the minimal required interface to dial a number and write a text. It's already the size of an iPhone, and i doubt the additions will make it noticeably bulkier.
    And as a plus, i doubt the device would be as crippled as the iPhone is/was.

    I agree completely with parent. Why don't they take that money and just cover a few square miles with solar panels?? It would be cheaper, more efficient, more easily mantained, and there's no chance that a slight malfunction would vaporize people, cities or even whole lakes. Why the fuck are they doing this???!!!!!!

    I'd guess they'll use resources other than steroscopic vision. Just like the human brain, this cameras can measure relative distance by the change in size, and some other clever evolutionary hacks.

    i think that's their whole idea. What's the best way for people not to think China is the worst country in the world? Help make some other country the worst, in this case NK. While the international community focuses on NK, China can keep on doing as it pleases. It also helps said international community think they can actually do anything, using NK as a smoke courtain for real world problems. We all know China is way to big for anybody (even international bodies) to do something abou it, and newspapers still need to fill in their blanks, and governments need to point their fingers at something to keep their citizens scared. Just my 2 cents.

    And what will Johnny User do with that computer when the network is down?

    - Can't do email if you can't access Gmail/Hotmail/Yahoo.
    - Can't chat with friends on IM
    - Can't socialize on Facebook/Myspace
    - Can't surf YouTube for funny or interesting videos.
    - Can't pay your bills online or manage your bank account

    You still couldn't do any of those things even if you were using a fully fledged OS so... what was your point again???

    Also... weren't we suppossed to have ditched BIOS by now and be using EFI like all the Mac's? Now, instead, we are going to put the OS in it? I clearly don't understand this. Anybody care to explain this to us, the unwashed masses?

    Maybe you don't even need to. From Wikipedia:

    Please Stop with the Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics analogies. We all know their basis was that no robot would ever hurt a human by action or inaction. So there go military bots (They are basically killing machines). Also, mandatory:

          1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
          2. A robot must obey orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
          3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

    I would like to see tab number reduced (not scrapped) by implementing a system that groups tabs that come from the same source (like when you middle-click "Read More" on slashdot main page). That way the tab would turn into a drop-down menu enumerating such related webpages. It would improve the use of desktop real estate, and would avoid your boss seeing you with 12 open, non-work related tabs. What do you /.ers think?

    Actually Tor exit nodes can monitor traffic going through their proxy (loophole interface or whatever), so make sure you use your SSLs and such. I tend to think of it as having sex with a girl who is on the pill, while wearing a condom (better than car analogies)

    Maybe this could all be due to that "rumour" about Nvidia wanting to start their own x86 CPU business. To me it looks like Intel is doing a preemptive attack on Nvidia, so that, in the future, Nvidia won't dare to ask Intel for an x86 license. What do you think?

    Too bad that when the day this technology is deployed monthly bandwidth caps will probably be the rule. It would be nice being able to run a proper server at home (can't afford T1,and adsl here in Spain have very restricted upload capacity), without worrying about hogging your bandwidth with pr0n and torrents. We'll see how this goes.
