Maybe the Brits think of Canadians as virtually US, but there are big differences. The Canadians are much more docile and willing to give up their rights to the g'ment. They never even won their independence.
Lately, I've seen some pretty poor results from labor oursourced to India and the like, though. I think in the long run, companies doing these things to cut costs are going to find they shot themselves in the foot. Customer satisfaction is going down the toilet....
Can you give a real example? I have suspected this much, and would like to have some facts.
What a memory! I remember going to 7-11 sometime about 1975. There was some digital pinball machine - can't remember exactly. Power switch under the coin box. Flick the switch off/on quickly, get 2-3 games on the counter.
I can't find it right now, but I recall from
several years ago that the inventor of the
mouse wheel had his invention stolen by you-know-who, and he prevailed somewhat.
Google failed me on this one. Maybe the history of that event has been erased.
Don't be so down on PCs as test equipment. I have
found that they are near perfect for collecting
large amounts of slow data - less than 48kHz sampling with a standard soundcard.
I used a mic input to gather megs and megs of samples from an accelerometer for later analysis. What expensive test units could I have used?
Higher integration and smaller packages do not necessarily mean less hackable computers. The ETRAX 100LX, the current offering, boots a 2.4.5 kernel w/ a few patches. It does have a unique but well documented instruction set. And it is highly integrated.
These folks have done the gcc port and the kernel port well, and they seem serious in their chosen approach.
Don't do business with any merchant that databases your CC. The only way to know this is to ask, and get an affirmative answer, manager's name, date, and time. Then you still can't be sure.
The hassle factor of cancelling and replacing CCs can be huge. The indiviudual liability is not too great. But any clueless online merchant that databases customer's CCs does not deserve to exist.
Training starts in grade school, with children being able to do basic arithmetic in 3rd or 4th grade. Many can't even in high school. I'm worried for our society. We are lazy and poisoned by marketeers.
My Doubleclick blocks are not coming down after the 'Doubleclick fiasco (TM)'.
I see the IDG triangle in the upper left, and that's all. I've tried to inform them twice, with no response. IE barely works with the blocks, but NS does not work at all.
My approach is to query the zip server on an as-needed basis, and cache the results. This works well for what I needed. Check out Here. I'll send the PHP source if you ask nicely.

Market makers are obligated to take up slack.
Ironic, is it not?
e.g.
Try building the kernel w/out GCC. It is very much required - we just normally don't credit the compiler.

I swear I don't know how I figured this one out.

> I can definetly tell you that designing & building bridges is harder than designing and building software! :)
If your mind works that way, then I guess you are right concerning yourself. You are in general wrong.
The simplest short span bridge is two beams and some slats. The detailed analysis fits on one or two pages. Get real.
What a shitty three choice. Who's the libertarian candidate? The independent?
Scott McNealy became Snott McSquealy the day he said what he did about privacy. What a shithead.
As for BG, I think he really does believe his press releases.
And LE? Well, like I said.
Oh, come on. Patents on _real_ inventions are fine and dandy. Most people paying attention are concerned w/ _software_ patents.

And SDMI might be pronounced "S dummy".

Infoworld can go to hell: they're halfway there.
