I'm a power user. And I have yet to suffer a single debilitating virus or worm or spyware or malware whatsoever. Not one problem in 10 years, save the time I spilled water in the keyboard of my desktop and I took a ahirdryer to it and let it dry out for two days and it worked perfectly.
It's true I have never had a major debilitating virus. Why? BECAUSE IM SMRT. Err. smart.
No Really it's becasue (as my father is so fond of saying) "PAY ATTENTION" if an activex control looks odd I dont run it, if a program seems like it might be bad news, I don't run it. I have always had a firewall and anti-viral software (but have gone YEARS with out it besides periodic installs to make sure im clean with NO viruses). I update windows regularly and I know whats happening in the computer security world. It is true I am no an infosec proffesional but I wasnt always (I just graduated). These steps arent hard, but you do need to devote a little bit of effort (say 30 mins a week) and give your fair share of ue dilligence to not run shady apps.
Uh.. The difference here is that the admin is accountable to someone, namely stockholders (blindly assuming lowes is a public company) as well as to the government under Sarbanes-Oxley (it wasn't in place when this happened though). His failure to excercise due dilligence is in facts grounds for him to be fired, as well as a whole lot government fines. So if you replace the word "house" with "bank" and "go to jail" with "levied with massive fines". Then yes. Yes they should.
IANAL But I disagree, if the person is monitoring your electronic communications thats clearly in violation of federal wiretapping laws, if however if they are using an OPEN ap (ie no security just find and connect) and there is no warning or banner to NOT use it, they have a reasonable expectation that this AP is there for public use and their use of it is certainly NOT illegal.
I think global financials can be pretty fascinating and from this brief excerpt ("slashvertisement" or not) I think I would probably check this book out, I like the narration style while it still seems fairly informative.
I fully agree, i can remeber reading brahm stokers dracula in its entirety in 1st grade, it took some effort and probably screwed me up for life but it was much better than the drivel that was assigned at the time "Se spot, see jane, see jane play with spot" i always wanted spot to bite jane but he never did:(.
"The Microsoft solution also has advantages from their point of view in that it allows online licence management, pay to play systems and on-the-fly updating of "revocation lists". These update your client on compromised certificates."
I dunno i just think its ironic they list the ability to revoke certificates as one of Wicrosofts strong points, what with the verisign fiasco and all.
The Computer Science House at RIT (http://www.csh.rit.edu) uses a tini board as the telnet server for our Drink machine (http://www.csh.rit.edu/projects/drink) and it works very well cheap stable and nice. and the one wire technolgoy and i-buttons have been a huge help in keeping the size/price to a minimum.
they call it 63 gb in the article but if you do the math its more like 63 (5.6*800*60*60*4)/(1024) also i find it interesting that they they fell the need to convey the size as the number of mp3s (20,000) it would equal. interesting becuase it shows that the average user knows more about downloading mp3s than basic sizes in computer files.
