  1. April Fools on Three Low-Tech Hacks for Phones and Tablets · · Score: 2

Is this an early April Fool's Day joke? This is the worst 'article' posting that I've ever seen on slashdot. I don't jump on the "slashdot has gone downhill" bandwagon, but...seriously? A spare battery and extremely ugly furniture? Thanks, but no thanks.

If you have an ugly furniture setup in your home, then please, please don't post pictures on the internet and encourage others to copy it. You should be slightly embarrassed of your setup. Very poor aesthetics. No wonder you don't have to worry about "company" in bed.

If decent looking furniture is out of your price range, that's okay. However, don't brag about your terrible design philosophy.

I have no problem with guns, large sodas, free speech, and freedom of religion. But, thank you for making assumptions about my beliefs based on the article that I posted (which had nothing to do with these issues -- except your narrow minded view on money=free speech). I DO have a problem with a very small number of ultra rich people polluting our political system and society with negative ads. Especially when these ads from outside groups predominately support one party -- the Republicans. Next time, take a minute out of your day to read an article before you respond to it with blatant stupidity.

It's the same argument that has been used against gun manufacturers. Look, you shouldn't sue the manufacturer for providing a product that is used to hurt others -- n.b., in the case of video games, there is no 'hurt' involved. Sue the god damn person that SOLD the product, if you need to sue anyone. Better yet, Jack Thompson should just forget about halo 3, and do us all a favor: STOP EXISTING. The responsibility is not the one who made it, but it is the one who gave/sold it to the offending party. I'm sick of morons.

Everybody is talking about running applications through the internet. Why would we, as consumers, want to do this? The RIAA and MPAA are attempting to limit our ability to make backups of things we purchase. Now, software appears to be heading in the same direction. If we start streaming applications, then we could easily get into a pay-as-you-use function, or some other horrid distribution system. Frankly, I would not want to be charged every time I open a text document, or an IM window, or an internet browser. And I don't like the idea of paying a subscription fee either. I think forcing people to stream applications through the internet will only push more people into using Linux, so that everything is right there on the machine.

GeekSquad charged my mother $270, and they didn't do anything to it. Unfortunately, it will be difficult for me to argue on her behalf, because I'm 1400 miles away.

Apparantly, they installed some software (Anti-virus, etc.) on it for her. She doesn't have the bill yet (it better be itemized), but she said they charged her about $70 to run the diagnostic, $90 for software, and whatever else lead to a $270 bill. She thought she needed a new power supply. Turns out, she just needed to pay BestBuy money and NOT get a new power supply. What the hell is going on over there at BestBuy? I will no longer endorse their store, not even for DVDs or CDs.

By the way, her computer was purchased last august at a price of $200. So, now she has spent more in repairs than on the machine itself. Thanks a lot BestBuy, you basterds!
