You aren't kidding, and when I read the title "Vista in Trouble?" I thought to myself HELL YEAH! I bought Windows XP x64 less than 2 months ago (OEM Edition) with the promise of a FREE VISTA UPGRADE!!! I got it off Newegg, which I've NEVER had problems with... Microsoft doesn't recognize my computer's serial number (no kidding shits, I built it!), and even though I got XP legitimately, MS STILL won't honor my FREE VISTA deal.
As far as I'm concerned, forget Vista, XP works fine and for what it DOESN'T do..I have virtualization.
Things you need to enter for that doesn't require the keyboard initially:
Copying and pasting text
Drag and dropping text
Dragging and dropping pictures
I mostly use gtalk to send links of cool sites I find all day to a coworker/friend. Right click the link, cut, right click in gtalk, paste.....enter key? I want a button!
The program can handle chat to most mainstream IM applications. This program allows for voice chat, easy file transfer and now is about to add video capabilities...
...but there's still no "send" button.
GAH YOU GOOGLE for forcing me to reach for my keyboard!!!
Predators, like cats, cannot taste sweet because their body receives enough sugars from their food sources that they don't require the need to seek more out. We, as omnivores, have a much larger "taste range" as we require many different, and many more nutrients.
I think there's more to it though. More security more often than not = less functionality. A completely locked down workstation, while secure, is not going to provide the users with as much functionality than a wide-open workstation. A lot of products are sold simply because of ease-of-use (read: ipod), and security is merely an extra "feature."
Think of it too like a car. Would you rather have a car that has a governor, limiting your speed to 55MPH/100KPH? It's safer...
This is based on my own past work experience, but often times our corporate numbers were based primarily on a specific statistic. For example, I wouldn't be surprised if, in this case, "Sony has received complaints on less than one thousandth of one percent of affected discs shipped." really translates to "Sony has received complaints from registered users on less than one thousandth of one percent of affected discs shipped."
If a client of ours had failed to register their software, we would still process their claim but label it as an "external client." I never trust numbers anymore...
...also, finding ads that make it around my currently existing filters is rare, but when I do it's like a game trying to come up with the best filter expression to A) block the image/object and B) not block anything useful in the process. I really don't mind updated lists, but it takes the fun out of a new adblock install if I don't get to impress the person who I just installed it for by "magically" removing their ads! After the gloating though, I go straight for the lists...
Both sites I owned, ran, updated...the problem is, I never had "automatically renew" (see: automatically charge my credit card) turned on. Both sites expired one January afternoon, and before that Friday (my payday), they were both picked up by link farms. ALSO, keep in mind I used Yahoo! Domains (now Yahoo! Small Business) for these sites. Now, I use GoDaddy, which will keep a temporary hold on them to allow for my renewal (which Yahoo! never did.) If anyone can get me these sites back (without having to pay the hundreds of dollars for them that they are each asking!), by all means!!!
The Filterset.G updater, while nice (and updated!), I've found to be much slower than the Adblock Plus filtersets you can install straight from the plugin. Since Adblock had no such updater, it was a very nice additional feature, but it's memory footprint isn't worth the extra ~5 filters a month (IMO) for AB+.
Nevertheless, and I did not mean to imply this, you do make some very valid points. YOUR logic allow you to accept the fact that science might some day copy the brain. YOUR ethics allow you to accept (and approve of) the morality behind it. I very much agree with your points as far as WHY we should do it, but WHY is still completely subjective, that was all I was trying to get at.
Person A might be trying to copy the brain to learn, to understand and to be able to use the functionality that exists in the brain. Person B might be trying to copy the brain to learn how to more effectively poison it...

...or they ARE keen to and are immediately silenced.
...in OTHER news, the janitor of a well-known movie studio was found dead today in his apartment on Gungan drive in Downtown Naboo...
eh but so long as you kept your finger on the previous page, it didn't count!

Ethically, there's a difference between murder and punishment.

I refuse to code for IE. In fact, if you are NOT running Firefox, I give you nasty messages and google ads! http://slipperyfish.net/
Exactly. All China is doing is sharing amongst themselves!

You'd be surprised at the current effectiveness of Vista's Firewall. Talk about retardant!
What's most enigmatic is the line: This is despite the more than $220,000 the chemical industry has spent since 2005 to defeat the legislation.
My interpretation: Congressmen need more than 6 figures to be bought off.

Is it, perchance, that people and animals use the same...herbal remedy?

At $1100 for 25 seats, versus $700 for 5 storage groups, monetarily I don't see the point...
No he's not, go away.
