We already know of places where current scientific understanding breaks down. Inside Black Holes for example. If there is one such circumstance, then there may be more. The black hole case is well known because it is so enormous that it is undeniable, but there may be smaller points of breakdown that we cannot presently detect.

So how much is this 'war' costing Apple? They simply recompiled Safari and released it for free on a web server, at a total cost of what - $10,000? It is probably the cheapest Apple advertisement campaign ever.

on Unix systems, which is a lack of standardization between platforms. The only way to reliably distribute your code is in source form. So yes, you can distribute closed source, but your maintenance costs will be very high, since you'll have to recompile the code for a bazillion different platforms. Eventually, you'll get tired of that and publish the source.

Exactly - it is a Work Reservation bill. Something that one would expect a Trade Union to create. It ensures that managers can keep their monopoly on pirating of movies. The provinces will just ignore this silly bill - as with most things coming out of Ottawa. Canada is a weak federation. Ottawa has almost no power inside the country.

  16. Provincial yawn... on Behind the Scenes of Canada's Movie Piracy Law · · Score: 1

Law enforcement is a provincial issue. The Provinces will just let out a collective yawn and ignore it. This law is just a publicity stunt and has no real meaning. Bear in mind that even the Supreme Court of Canada isn't really supreme. The provincial courts have a higher status than the Supreme Court in Ottawa. If you are found guilty in a province and not guilty in Ottawa, then you better stay in Ottawa and not head home. It happens once in a while.

  17. Useless law - provinces will ignore it on Behind the Scenes of Canada's Movie Piracy Law · · Score: 2, Insightful
