For the record, I submitted the story. Now that this disclaimer is over. I agree with you, I don't download myself so am unlikely to get caught, not being in the US would also help. The main reason I did submit this story is to point out the facts 28,000 lawsuits and no real drop in the percentage of people getting music from P2P systems, in fact the number of internet users would have increased in that time so the absolute numbers of users of P2P system would have increased as well. So the lawsuits aren't working. My other point is that they are focusing on the most popular songs, which means they are more likely to be suing 13 year old girls who love the latest plastic pop than a 40 something geek listening to Van Morrison, you know the lawsuits that make them unpopular. I guess it helps that these are the people who cannot fight back on technical details.

I can out this into a bit of prospective for you, the average wage in New Zealand is currently about $47,000 so you would be earning above the average wage and remember that $55,000 is the minimum that they can pay you on the visa. Secondly the visa is slightly different in that it is not meant as a "temporary" visa like the H-1B, the correct name for this is the "Work to Residence" visa, so after two years in New Zealand, if you still have a job and you haven't broken any laws you can apply to stay in the country permanently.

The other option is what the do here in New Zealand for diesel vehicles. You prepay your road user charges (road tax what ever you want to call it) on a kilometre basis, so you might go out and buy 10,000 km of user charges and the little card that they give you to stick on your card says that it is valid for odometer readings between 50,000 and 60,000. This way the rate that you are charged for each km can be set dependant on the weight of your vehicle, since a 30 ton truck will do a lot more damage to the road for each km driven than a 1.5 ton car. For the record petrol has the road user charges included in the price of each litre since there isn't the big range of weight in the vehicles using it on the road.

To be fair all of the Australian states are called colonies in the constitution because that is what they were at the time. Section six of the preamble covers this.

"The States" shall mean such of the colonies of New South Wales, New Zealand, Queensland, Tasmania, Victoria, Western Australia, and South Australia, including the northern territory of South Australia, as for the time being are parts of the Commonwealth, and such colonies or territories as may be admitted into or established by the Commonwealth as States; and each of such parts of the Commonwealth shall be called "a State". So yes according to the constitution of Australia, New Zealand is a state of Australia. For those who don't know the history New Zealand helped write the constitution because at the time it was considering being a member of the Commonwealth. That said sporting wise NZ basically is a state I can count three Australian national competitions where New Zealand teams compete, plus the Super 14 and the new joint netball league starting next year, Cricket is about the only holdout.

It is also implied that Gridenwald gave up at the end of the fight and that is why Dumbledore defeated him, not because he was a better wizard. That would (could?, who knows how wands think) count as a defeat in battle to the wand making Dumbledore the true owner of the wand which was needed for the rest of the story.

I had issues yesterday morning, like most people are saying 100% CPU by the MSCORSVW process, seems that the process had the same priority as anything else so it took forever for Firefox to open so I could find out what that process was. On top of all that it seems to have effected the most important app on my system and I had to reinstall before I could do any work yesterday.

That would be because it is alot easier for a Aussie, Kiwi or Soth African to get a work visa in the UK. Being a member of the Commonwealth has it's advantages.

That said for our American friend, have you looked at New Zealand, with all the kiwis working in the UK there is a shortage of IT workers there and they will probably let you into the country if you can spell computer correctly. If you want a job in gaming, I hear Peter Jackson is hiring.

"My guess is all of New Zealand's spare capacity in IT field can be absorbed by GE in less than a year."

New Zealand's spare IT capacity is 0. In fact Immigration New Zealand keeps two lists (long and short term) of areas where there is a shortage of skilled people. If you are qualified for a job on that list it is easier for you to get into New Zealand. Anyway every area of IT is on that list. If you want a job in IT maybe you should look there.
