OK, then what would you suggest the governments do about illegal immigration? Because it's pretty obvious that what they're doing now isn't stopping a rather considerable stream of illegal aliens from crossing into the country. Would you suggest better security? A fence? Cameras? Or would you prefer that the borders just be ignored altogether? Be honest.
People bitched about racism when we wanted to build a fence as well. The only way they would not bitch is if we also built a fence around Canada. (And they would probably still find something race related to bitch about.)
It is clear that most people want to ignore the problem. If you live up north, you can successfully ignore the drug war going on in Mexico. That is not something as easy to overlook when you live in a border state and the war does not honor border.
In Texas you are and get get a Texas ID at the same place you get your driver's license. Of course, they can only ask for it if you are committing a crime (even a minor one like walking in the city park after it is closed.)
If Arizona is just enforcing the fed law, tell me how they can enforce it EQUALLY and I mean non-racially. Would they ever stop this girl and ask for her papers? Would they ever stop me and ask me for mine?
If either one of you was stopped for any of the reasons allowed in the bill, they would be asking for your driver's license no matter what color your skin is.
It is amazing watching the democratic complain about republicans talking about "death panels" and then watching them yell that every Mexican is going to be attacked on the the streets.
I was waiting for someone to equate "states rights" with slavery. I was really expecting it from the health care debate not against a state that is just trying to enforce federal law.
It is a shame that the USA has grown from a country where states rights were supreme to states rights are expressions of slavery.
Only the paranoid still used that word. The new word(s) is "caring and civilized society." It's kind of a mouthful, but you get a warm feeling when saying it.
IANAL - but you can make the same argument for Microsoft or Google - for antitrust cases its seems to be mostly about market share. Once/if apple gets enough market-share then they will get visits from the DOJ too.
Plus my own personal experience where my car was searched in Texas while I was supposed to be enjoying a vacation. Damn Feds made me stand around for an hour before finally admitting, "Well I guess you ain't got no illegals here." Duh. It's a coupe not a van.
I got the same treatment when I crossed the British Columbia border with Texas plates. They had us empty out our car (it was a camping trip so lots of junk to empty out) and made us wait around an hour because "everyone from Texas carries guns."
It did not leave me with the cynical taste that I am sorry to say your experience apparently left. Of course, it is hotter down here so that could have added to your mood.
Being from Texas, I can never understand why people come to Texas for vacation - not that I fault them for that. I always head for the mountains up north:) That said, when I lived in Seattle, it amazed me how many people had never been to the mountains just a few hours away from them.
The fact that Google is just an advertising company that does search compared to Microsoft actually having products to support itself is a major factor in my decision.
But the goal of Bing (other than to destroy Google)is to make money from advertising on Bing not to give you a private search engine. So I don't really see the difference here.
Pretty much, you trust Bing more because it is losing.
That's actually why I switched to Linux. It was when we first started hearing about Vista that I decided I did not want to have to buy another computer just to upgrade (and I know myself well enough to know that if I was still using Windows when Vista rolled out, I would not be able to resist.)
Which delusion?.....I don't think you'll find anything delusional about my post. Maybe you need to consider your own biases.
You just contradicted the post (of yours) I replied to (and quoted) or you are going off-topic and adding what the Mossad has done that is evil. Unless those supplied post are about how Mossad is not really a weapon but "right-wing zealot settlers." And what makes the settlers right-wing? The fact of wanting to settle in Israel won land?
The people I know who are most active in Facebook are also the people that don't miss a Uni party, know almost everybody in their course and are never at home at Saturday nights. The people that have small profiles are the ones who have a more restricted circle of friends and less time/will to go out.
Same here. Those are the social butterflies. Sadly, I never developed that skill and just feel awkward at parties and gatherings and compensate by randomly saying inappropriate things.
In fact, that was the best part of smoking. It gave me an excuse to walk out of a party for a few minutes. I am quitting smoking, but will continue to use that as an excuse.
I don't know why I always get 1's for scores. I Really try to be thoughtful most of the time.
Simply put: thoughtful isn't what gets you modded up on Slashdot. You need to provoke a little bit. Make people think, make them laugh or provide some sort of information that no one else on the thread has provided.
Be patient, too. Sometimes I got through weeks where it seems like I couldn't buy an up-mod even for what I think is an excellent post.
That is the problem with disabling signatures. It really took me a while to realize what you were replying to.
I've been saying this for years! Random level generation in first person shooters, racers, and platformers doesn't seem terribly complex to me. Why hasn't anyone introduced this into a game yet?
Because of the money that would be lost on magazine walktrus.
I just saw a laptop with a quad core i7 and oboard Radeon 5870 (that's dual GPU) for $1100-1600 depending on options. That's affordable for anyone.
Only on slashdot would someone think that $1100-1600 is affordable for a laptop.
Now I feel like a cheap bastard for grimacing at the $400 pricetag on the laptop I was looking at.
They need that 5-10k for Bing :)

In fact, when first getting a drivers license (in Texas so your state may be different,) we are required to present a Birth Certificate.

Looks like Arizona allows a lot more, though.

Look at the comments here against the bill" compared to for the bill

In Texas I am required to show my ID (if asked) whenever I leave my home. I don't see what is so different about this law.
All Arizona is doing is taking away the "I left my ID/paperwork at home and you can't prove I didn't" excuse.
Living in San Antonio makes me part of the silent minority that support this law and wish they would pass it here.
You're asking for communism?

That is the point that Anonymous was making

Sure. Post one of those stories and we can talk about it. Posting an iphone story just so we can talk Israel politics is dishonest.
I am cool with that. But at least the editors could be honest and use a humanity story. There are plenty to choose from.

but don't try to pin the innocuous confiscation of iPads on some weirdo paranoid delusion about Mossad.
That was cute especially since you added your own "weirdo paranoid delusion" to your reply.
I resent the insinuation that anyone who has something negative to say about Apple or Israel is somehow a troll.
If you can't have an intelligent conversation about the merits and demerits of a technology, maybe this isn't the site for you
The problem is that people posts have nothing to due with technology. (Some do but how many post can you get out of Israel now allows the ipad?)
Instead, we hear about how they are building homes in places we think they shouldn't or how they are murders of innocent Palestinians.
If you want to bash Israel, at least keep it technology related, but hate does not usually allow one to restrain oneself.
Can I have an invite :)
Sorry to reply to myself, but I am curious how many other slashdotters starts to feel physically sick and anxious at parties?
Hell, I get anxious and as a result a little angry just when talking to an overly friendly co-worker.

You have got to be kidding.
Don't worry. That fits the length requirements.

No. It is the one company that refused to turn over its user's data without the appropriate warrants.
