Or, deity forbid, someone actually cares about the addicted n00bs injuring themselves
No one is asking you for this help.
What other potentially dangerous activities do you want to protect us from? Sky diving? Deep sea diving? Walking across streets? Leaving our homes?
so that an industry can profit?
I really want to ignore this because it's such a transparently bs "evil corp boogeyman" argument - especially when talking about the vape industry. The destruction of the vape industry will just push most vapers to smoking regular cigarettes and just make big tobacco that much wealthier. And honestly, if I buy from a non-profit vape store, then do I have your permission to vape in public?
I haven't watched Orville yet as I have per-judged it as Star Trek meets family guy.
Interested if I am wrong on this? Is bathroom humor often or not really?
I will probably check it out as I'm not enjoying STD that much. Maybe if I wasn't in the middle of rewatching Deep Space 9, I'd like it more. Watching STD (apparently- i know there have been very few episodes so far) undo all the rich culture and diversity of the Klingons is hard to stomach.
McCain has been considered a RINO for over a decade now. Not just last year.
In fact, he won the primaries because of that - we were told by the media (and read it on a number of democrat posters here) that he was a republican that they would be able to vote for. Of course, once the true conservatives were out of the running and he was standing next to Obama, suddenly he was considered a hard core neocon.
We fell for the same thing with Romney. Democrats in the media (I know - redundant) and democrats elsewhere telling us that they would vote for him because they were disillusioned by Obama and could vote for someone moderate like Romney. We went along knocking out Santorum and Gingrich to elect someone we didn't care for but were interested more in following what we were told by the party and the democrats who was our path to victory . Then as soon as all the real conservatives (speaking of the moral conservative side / not just economic) were out, we hear how uncaring and extreme Romney was.
There is a reason this time around, "extremists" like Cruz and Trump where the top runners and "moderates" John Kasich and Jeb Bush lost handily. We were not falling for the McCain / Romney trick again.
When I get a popup in kde asking for my root password, it doesn't look different than any other prompt that pops up.
Sure, there are ways that apple could change this but as someone mentioned above, I get a standard google password pop up for micro-transactions. I also get one if I use the "Find my Phone" android app.
Really, if the user is entering their password on any prompt - especially one that comes up for no reason - this is a user issue.
When I click on an email to reset my password and it takes me to a cloned version of my bank's site, it's not my bank's fault that their site was cloned and I mindlessly entered my password.
And the ones that state that windows makes you enter control-alt-delte to enter your password, I really don't think that's true for windows mobile.
They do it knowing they will never have us as a supporter but hoping that we are scared or shamed into silence so they can ensure the next generation is cool with it.
This has been going on with various issues for 30 years. The thing is, by using these techniques, they are creating a generation of assholes who think it's fine to be as rude and ugly as they want as long as it's for a good cause.
But it is still lower for the people they sell it at 1 dollar to.
If they said "1 dollar for all customers" then you'd have a point.
And considering Hulu is upfront about this (it's the article from the Verge that uses the phrasing you find deceptive), not sure what the problem is in any case
Awesome. You should set up a video service with your model.
I won't be subscribing to another commercial channel but it doesn't mean that it doesn't have value for a lot of people. And 5 dollars is cheaper than a lot of cable plans (which usually include commercials.)
The presented idea is that either individuals stopped voting for HRC or started voting for Trump because of facebook and youtube ads.
I don't subscribe to this theory but Hillary and a large portion of her supporters view her voters as this easily duped.
I am a bit amazed that you you immediately follow that sentence with
Either way by definition those people would not be Hillary supporters.
You just said they stopped voting for HCR over facebook/youtube commercials which means they once were supporting her else how would they stop? Or are you doing the typical Clinton double talk "I said 'are' not 'was'".
You are talking about how Obama used it for his election win correct? I remember everyone talking about how brilliant and masterful he was when he manipulated people through social media but now that people who may have supported Trump have used it, it's suddenly reprehensible.
Umm - have you forgotten what the left did to Santorum's name via google?
It's been 10 years and his name still pulls up an obscene reference as the 1st, 3rd through 8th results (most of which are mother jone's articles). It's funny that there is someone on here who works for motherjones and touts how non-partisan it is when the first title for Rick's name is "Rick Santorum's Anal Sex Problem".
Apparently the typical Hillary supporter is easily susceptible to Russian advertising since so many of them apparently abandoned her due to facebook and youtube ads.
I like the world you envision; I just think you are incorrect on some the reasons we are not there yet.
And unfortunately, to get there and maintain, we would need direct government control over a lot of aspects of our lives. For example, is it a correct use of resources for a sports player with no family to have a house with more than1 or two bedrooms or should that go to a larger family? Should families be allowed to be large? In order to elimate or reduce scaricity we need to be micromanaged to a level most people do not want.
Have you really had issues with systemd or even pulseaudio or network manager?
I installed debian on my samsung laptop and it worked without mesing with any files. I have never had it fail to boot. I have it on my raspberry pi as well running homeassistant also on debian.
I haven't had windows 10 fail to boot either, just saying I hear the systemd complaint allot but I really don't think it's an issue for most home users. Maybe it messes on the enterprise level, but your post is clearly talking about home users.
Their hard stand against root is why I quit buying Samsung. To take away functionality (like Samsung pay) FOREVER on my phone even if I unrooted it was pretty upsetting.
Thank you for reminding me why I quit buying Samsung mobile stuff.
I would love to live in a world where everything was free, all my needs where catered to, and I didn't have to work.
That's easy to sell especially to people who already believe that they are entitled to it. And you are giving people the boogeyman for who to lay the blame at: profit driven corps!
The only problem is in order for your idea to work, we have to first get to the a post-scarcity world. My water and electricity are run adn controled by the local government, but that doesn't make them free. In fact, it cost more than a lot of profit utilies in other cities.
Most would rather complain that corporations are evil and government should take over without even realize they are asking the government to take over and fix a problem that the government helped create.
Public money comes from corporations either through direct tax or payroll tax or another tax.
And if you don't think profits and money had a hand in the timetable of what went up first and the quality of build and material for certain areas, try living in the poorer areas of town.
Or, deity forbid, someone actually cares about the addicted n00bs injuring themselves

There was a story about a woman that died for that very reason.

I think you meant to post that on the numerous Trump articles already on slashdot.
For fucksakes, ever article does not have to turn into a Trump bash fest.
It's getting worse than those damn apk posts.
When I get a popup in kde asking for my root password, it doesn't look different than any other prompt that pops up.

But this isn't a flaw in IOS. It's like saying Android is insecure because of fake emails I get asking me to reset my gmail password
You know, there are a ton of Trump stories on slashdot without forcing this discussion to become a Trump one.

No it doesn't. It would mean everyone is they said lowering for everyone. You can't add words to something and then say it means the same thing,
That said, until cable reduces costs for internet only plans, most people won't officially cut the cord.
I have cable. I never watch it, but I have it since it costs more or the same to not have it.
Let me break down what you wrote
The presented idea is that either individuals stopped voting for HRC or started voting for Trump because of facebook and youtube ads.

You just said they stopped voting for HCR over facebook/youtube commercials which means they once were supporting her else how would they stop? Or are you doing the typical Clinton double talk "I said 'are' not 'was'".
And Hillary was doing crooked things so I guess it is equally appropriate.
You are talking about how Obama used it for his election win correct? I remember everyone talking about how brilliant and masterful he was when he manipulated people through social media but now that people who may have supported Trump have used it, it's suddenly reprehensible.

What cheeto affair? Are cheetos in league with Russia as well now?

Compared to what?
I heard it was pretty stable at this current state.
Most would rather complain that corporations are evil and government should take over without even realize they are asking the government to take over and fix a problem that the government helped create.
Public money comes from corporations either through direct tax or payroll tax or another tax.
