    Sadly though the biggest argument against the concept of karma is a very strong one: in this world, the wicked tend to prosper.

    At work I hear a lot about how my bad or trouble-making peers will have to face karma and to sit back and wait for that to happen. My problem with karma or the whole "they will get theirs" is, even if this it's true, it does not undue any damage they have caused me.

    That's the problem, a lot of guys suck it up because they don't want to be seen as week.

    I just went through a he/she said situation at work. Result -"Even though you did not make any physical advances, suggestions, requests, etc, towards anyone, some people (who we can't name) say you talked explicitly about a date you were on so we are going to move you to a final counseling. Yes, we know you don't have a history of it, but why would a group of 3 friends lie?"

    At that point, any mention of how those 3 people have made my work life a living hell for the past year sounds like me trying to lie about them to get myself out of trouble.

    Off topic, going forward, how do you prove you did not do something?

    I'm going to regret asking this, but did you compare Mother Theresa to Hitler?

    Hitler told people what they wanted to hear to drum up support. If the population was atheist, he would have taken a more Stalinish approach. He had the Catholic church on a very tight leash with thousands of priests being arrested (or disappearing) in Poland and elsewhere

    Leave. Nobody is forcing you to stay and do a job you don't agree with.

    The same argument can be made about forcing businesses to pay for abortions and contraceptives.

    The are mom and pop bakeries we are talking about. They are individuals.

    Those businesses pay taxes too. It's not like they are getting a free ride and they are not free to create their own road system. They also pay for those police in addition to any other security they have.

    and I remember him pushing the Defense of Marriage Act in '97.

    So did Clinton as well as 118 Democrats on the hill and 32 senators.

    Not the best example to give.

    That said, I have an extreme dislike for Graham and wish he would just leave politics altogether so we can get another Cruz/Walker type person in office.

    Jeb is a long way from being nominated. The funny thing is that one of the bigger obstacles in the way is that another neo-con, Lindsey Graham

    Besides matters of defense, I don't think many people see either one of those people as neo cons

    No. This should be titled "No chance in hell".

    The people who currently control congress are the same people who created the Patriot Act.

    Considering the Democrats who controlled both parties failed to do anything but renew it, the Republicans may be our best shot - particularly while they don't control the executive branch.

    There are some (on both sides) that thought the bill was a good idea at the time but now realize how awful it really is. Additionally, a very large portion of the Republicans in Congress today were not in Congress when the first bill passed.

    It's kind of silly. The people coming here illegally are not usually crossing at border patrol stations.

    This really only serves to track law abiding citizen's movements. And you're naive if you don't realize that this is just a pilot that will be spread out throughout the country if not stopped now.

    Here's the rub. You can never plan ahead enough to eliminate failure. Sometimes the cost of planning is not worth the cost of the failure you avoid.

    Exactly. I have been involved in many projects that spend so much time in the planning stage, that by the time we are ready to move forward, the people supporting the project are gone and all traction dissolved. Then in a year or two, the exact same project starts up again - in the planning stage.

    You have a lack of imagination, my friend. Dear old Mitt as much as admitted that he knew squat about foreign policy.

    Obama was the same when running for his first time.
    This last election, Romney mentioned the threat from Russia and Obama laughed at him during the debates. In fact, most of the things he warned us about that Obama that was funny (Isis being a JV team) have been shown to be true.

    I guess every time one party does something, we need to point out examples of the other party doing the same thing.

    Additionally, the people complaining about the private servers are not Jeb Bush or Rick Perry (or at least, they are not leading the attack).

    The thing is, we knew how bad Obama was by the second term. I really don't believe Romney would have been worse. I really don't see how he could be.

    Obama has done everything that people hated Bush for and more.

    This is a pretty good point. Now so many applications are being designed as server apps to make them more portable and universal and are on systems that typically would have a gui.

    I was wondering how long it would take for the verbatim phrase of "Republicans hate us" to move from troll to interesting/insightful.
    Really does go to show if you say something enough, people will believe it.

    This is the problem with Obama's campaign machine. His was the first to understand the power of repeating thing over and over again in simple terms and people will believe it no matter how ridiculous they original thought the idea was.

    If I want to see the research (I mean real research) on human reaction to mercury , and maybe any studies or abstracts about it, I can't really use Google now. The first 200 website are anti vaccine websites.

    It must have something to do with the type of searches you have preformed in the past.

    Granted, I only look at the first page of results, but non of them had anything to do with anti vaccination.

    I really don't get how people don't find this scary. What if the next CEO decides global warming is a hoax or that the earth is flat? Do you think the current Google will find websites that complain about Google's stance on privacy factual?

    I quit using google a few days ago after reading one of the slashdot articles on alternative web searches and this makes me even more glad I did.

    I thought about this as well and switched to Yandex which has a similar interface as gmail. I'd never thought I'd go to the Russians for privacy but they seem less likely to be subpenaed by the feds. That said, using a Russian email probably already brings it's own extra attention to me.

    I thought of setting up my own server but decided it really wasn't worth the bother. Most of my friends and family use gmail, so gmail still gets their profile one me regardless of what I do.
