I don't usually agree with what you write but I really enjoyed your post here. I wish I had a mod point to throw your way.
A lot of people seem to find it blasphemy to blame Joss for any wrong doing.
I lost almost all respect for him since putting his name on Dollhouse. This was a show that only had failed potential. If Fox wouldn't let him show it the way he wanted, he shouldn't have done it. This wasn't his first experience with fox so he knew what he was in store for going in.
I always look at Farscape as the '90's version of American cultural propaganda
Your assumption that this Australian show was an American show demonstrates how well you have succumbed to the notion that all things are American:)
This show was very pro-UN control (versus American control,) very much against the idea of a group making themselves the police of the galaxy that nobody asked for or wanted, renamed NASA to ISA (or something like that,) and towards the end was pro-peace to the point that I was expecting them to break out in song. HEck, they even had an episode that showed how the US was letting 9/11 destroy world unity over the space program.
That said, this is my second favorite shows of all time only trumped by Babylon 5. And it surpasses Babylon 5 in terms of consistent awesomeness.
Of course I'm not smart enough to comprehend how can processing and delivering mail cost more than changing a couple of number in a computer, but that's probably just me.
They charge for the same reason movie theaters charge a "convenience" fee when ordering your tickets online instead of going up to the cashier.
Did you read the response that nitrogensixteen was responding to? somersault made the exact point you are making and nitrogensixteen argued that it was a strawman
Here it is for you
That information is only powerful if people are willing to stand up for it. One or the other is pretty useless on its own, as the rioters presumably ended up being quite uncoordinated, and the ISPs seem to have been easily shut down.
Both somersault and I were stating that both are needed to be useful.
It is directly related to what you said and not a straw man argument. You may disagree with it, but that doesn't make it a straw man response.
Information is useless without action. We can all know that a meteor is going to crash into the earth, but if we don't take any action (even if it is just to prepare ourselves) then that information was useless.
When the TV tells you that your world is crumbling because school teachers and firefighters are getting pensions, and your employer tells you that they've decided it's not "cost-effective" to continue to provide your pension, "spite" is what happens.
The TV shows on CNN that I watch at work say the opposite. If teachers have to pay for a portion of their pensions and a portion of their healthcare (like most Americans do,) the whole education system will collapse. I have been hearing that non-stop since the whole Wisconsin mess started.
It's funny, to me, that we are suppose to be angry at the rich for getting perks we don't get but then are suppose to turn a blind eye to the police and teacher unions for getting the same. Just like the rich CEO getting bonuses while the majority of Americans were not, union teachers/police where getting raises and positive adjustments to their benefits when the majority of Americans where not.
What amazes me is that the teachers would rather 6000 public sector workers lose their jobs than tighten their own budget. Where is the shared responsibility here? Or does shared responsibly only come into play when we are talking about raising taxes.
I haven't seen an action movie ending in marriage in a log time. Are you still basing movies based on the 80's/90's?
I have seen most of them lead into sex (usually not graphic sex and I am also not suggesting that I find it bothersome I just think you are judging movies on a standard that no longer exists - at least, not in the majority of movies.)
(and, again, only because they never released the GECK for the PS3 version, even lazier of them) The hard drive is there, Bethesda, use it please.
I wonder what would happen if all the frequent buyers of games and downloadables were to have modded their console.
I read on the fallout forums that they are not allowed by the console companies (ms/xbox) to give users the means to modify the game (outside of playing it, of course.)
I get that blocking game servers but they are not just doing that. They are blocking access to PSN which stops me from legitimately purchasing anything online from them. This also blocks access to netflix for no reason I can see. When I try to load netflix, I see it open and load and connect to the netflix servers but I get a pop-up over it obstructing me from selecting anything saying I need to sign in the the PSN network.
I am now blocking my PSN from accessing the internet.
And yes, I mainly use it for homebrew stuff. You know, the stuff I used to be able to do when it still had the "other os" feature.
Back in the day, like in 7th grade or something, a guy at my school took it with him to school because we were all very cool back then. Then they had a meeting with his parents, lol.
One of the countries with the lowest rates of rape (Japan) actually has rape simulation games.
Wonder how Fox would spin that?
Do Japan woman tend to report rape as often as woman from other countries? Is what is considered rape in other countries the same as what is considered rape in Japan? Based on what I have read on Slashdot about Assage, countries vary greatly on what is considered rape.
Though, to be a little annoying, there are some problems still with the logic. Iraq wasn't a war of justice by any stretch
My point was to contrast yours about being pro-life but still being pro-war (whatever that means) and pro-capital punishment. While on the surface they appear related (abortion, war, capital punishment causes death) they are distinct issues.
On the surface, Iraq/Vietnam/Somalia/WWII are all related but they were all fought for different reasons. (I picked WWII for the reason you mentioned - it is as close to black and white as you can get.)
I get the reason for his post even if it is just noise to you and me. I don't get the reason for your post other than you wanted a chance to bitch at someone.
That's the problem. You don't understand the pro-life side of it. Pro-lifers do see a fetus as a child.
Pro-choicer see it as a libertity issue.
The "be pro-death penalty, and pro-war, which they often are within the political spectrum" is wrong. You assume that pro-lifers value life and peace above justice and then try to relate them together. That is like saying that since the the Iraq war is wrong we shouldn't have fought in WWII or any other just war.
In the last 25 years, a Democrat has been President for 14 years (4 years of Carter, 8 years of Clinton, 2 years of Obama), Democrats have controlled the Senate for 15 years and the House for 17 years.
I agree. I don't see how people can be passive about this topic yet care about life and human rights in other situations (Iraq, Darfur, China, etc)
If you think it is a child, it is murder and should be stopped. If you think it is not a child, then its an issue of trying to limit someone's rights to their own body and is a liberty issue.
Save your praise: most of the Republicans actually supported extension. It only failed by seven votes, and that because almost every Democrat and some of the Tea Party newcomers opposed it.
Almost a third of the democrats that voted voted to pass this bill and the president wanted it passed as well. So while the democrats did a better job voting against it, it was not even close to "almost every Democrat" opposing it.
I am curious how the people the tea party replaced voted last year. Would this had passed without them?
THIS is why the US is supposed to have separation of powers (federalism) between the Member States and the Union government, so no one maniac can become too powerful, but over time many of us have forgotten that basic principal
The term "state rights" is unfortunately now invokes the American Civil War.
We have seen this with health care, immigration, and numerous other issues. It is easier to scream racist than to actually deal with the issue or to even debate who should deal with the issue.
The other problem is people live in the moment. Bush got a lot of flack for not sending the troops immediately during Katrina. They felt that he should have bypassed the governor who was moving to slow. All the people whining at the time did not bother to think of the implications of the Executive Branch deciding on its own to invade (sorry - assist with keeping order) a state. While it may have been a good idea at the time, the precedent it would have set would have been terrible (same with the patriot act - useful at the time but something we will never be rid of now.)
This looks like a solid release. I only use stable for as long as it takes for the new queue to start start dumping back in Sid but I appreciate the hard work that has gone into this.
And the new artwork really rocks. I was shocked to see plymouth working out of the box with my nvidia card. The consistency from grub to kde launch is really stunning and makes the whole bootup feel seamless.
I don't know about the rest but I really would rather have my Chuck and Castle casts remain unchanged.
Wow - that would be a tough choice. I love Firefly but I think I must agree with you on this.

Every show I watched that was canceled was either because the studio is run by idiots or because American audiences are too stupid to get the show.
At least, this is the recurring fan IMDB theme I see whenever a show is canceled.
I haven't seen an action movie ending in marriage in a log time. Are you still basing movies based on the 80's/90's?

So I am 1 for 2 :)
I assumed the browser wouldn't work since netflix didn't. I guess that means that I need to complain to netflix, then.
Thanks for the test.
(and, again, only because they never released the GECK for the PS3 version, even lazier of them)

The problem is that PSN isn't only used for multiplayer. It is used for the browser and netflix and I imagine any online bluray features
I get that blocking game servers but they are not just doing that. They are blocking access to PSN which stops me from legitimately purchasing anything online from them. And yes, I mainly use it for homebrew stuff. You know, the stuff I used to be able to do when it still had the "other os" feature.
I imagine apps in their own tabs would require a new way of processing the tabs so you may get your issue fixed while providing new features.
Back in the day, like in 7th grade or something, a guy at my school took it with him to school because we were all very cool back then. Then they had a meeting with his parents, lol.
Almost as cool as using "lol"?
But then again, firefox has a show stopping html5 audio bug, which renders it useless for probably most applications.
Oh cool. Can you post the link for the release candidate for Firefox 4?
