i dont think meebo.com is the only one still hanging in there.
grupus.com is doing fine too. and i have really got hooked on the latter due to its emphasis on security and closed groups. in fact i sort of miss the spam while on that site
How else do you think the new ones will compete with the older and more popular ones?
But obvoiusly most of them do not cut it. I think stumbleupon and grupus are two good ideas I have seen in recent times.
sorry for the anonymous posting. in a library right now.
but whats with the 'exclusive social experience' stuff? could they be more abstract than that!! i feel that yes, social networking has lost its novelty lately, with hundreds of sites sprouting up, but there are still some good ones..like this one which allows u to form only 12-member groups.
When people with even some sense in their heads interact on social networking sites, they understand the risks, the significance of posting private information on the net and that many a times the strangers they are talking to may not be the way they are presenting themselves.
Dumb people on the other hand just want to be part of a social network because so many others are. Just keep following the herd and you wont be left out. They dont care what they are posting about, all they care is for some chicks to reply to them so they can then brag silly in front of their friends.
But there are surely some good sites out there. Not everything sucks. For eg: i am a member of a site called Grupus.com which lets me talk privately with my best friends, the ones i really know well, using small groups.
Sure the site's look appears crappy, they dont seem to have hired a designer, but it functions great. and thats enough for me.
this password case not withstanding..myspace generally sucks.
Grupus has a much better way of making people socialise.
Either form private groups there or public groups which only members can edit.
Social networking sites have a large role to play in making people less lonelier..Sites like Orkut, Myspace, Grupus, etc.. there are just so many of them, in different varieties and flavours, nowadays you end up interacting with a lot of people even from the confines of your home, even by just sitting in front of the box.
I feel that google's office suite has huge potential. Collaboration has become an important buzzword these days. People from multiple locations nowadays work on a single project. Also, many people these days cozily work from their homes.
Traditional products were not designed with these factors in mind. On the other hand, Google's products are almost always designed considering these factors.
Maybe Google's office suite is not attractive enough now, but past experiences tell us they will improve it up to the point as to give the others a good ride for their money..
not for the breakthrough.. for the fourth reply of course.. something better than nothing
