Now let's cross our fingers and hope that the astronomers don't really rely on the laptop, 'cause if it GPFs, or BSODs... ---

Not that I use it at home, but at work, I was testing 3 different "Security" schemes (probably available as expert install only?):
Medium: httpd, inetd (and a number of other services) are running; root login allowed at console
High: no httpd, inetd; root login allowed at console
Paranoid: what is root?
And when I initially installed it as High, I couldn't figure out why, even with inetd and httpd enabled, I couldn't ftp or telnet or access the web server. ---

hmm... if the song is based on DeCSS, then the lyrics has to be the code to DeCSS, which is illegal to post anywhere (at least any site that wants to be as legal as possible)
Please add some more $$$ to that $10M that MP3.com has to pay... ---

Is it just me or is the guy singing too fast that I couldn't even catch what the steps were?
Plus numerous people trying to listen from the link so the steps are getting chopped up even more.
Now where's the lyrics so I can understand him perfectly?! ---

it could take a long time (actually, depending on how many people know how to get ATA/100 to work and willing to write the code for the kernel)
for ATA/66, i had to pass kernel params to get it to work, and only at a slow, ATA/33 speed.
applying patches to 2.2.x kernels, as well as using 2.3.x kernels claming to support my ATA/66 board (HPT366), wouldn't work (DMA problems?). it was only when i tried 2.4.0-test5 that it finally worked (i haven't touched anything between 2.3.34 and 2.3.99-pre, soo...)
then again, it could really just be the DMA problem that prevented me from properly using my ATA/66 to it's full potential under linux ---

Processor cards for PC's has been around back in the XT days.
If I remember correctly, my computer tech teacher showed us a 286 card (with wires running on the back of the card for bug fixes) that you can stick into an expansion slot (8bit ISA?) of an 8086/8 PC, and that turns it into a 286.
Wellll, I never got to see it in action, but that's what he claimed. ---

How hard is it to patch up Word/Excel, whatnot, so that all macros only affect within the document?!?! Why do those macros need to get outside of the documents?!?! I just can't stand it!
Oh wait, that's exactly why the only Microsoft product on my machine is the OS... Then again, who knows what they have done with the OS as well?!

Ok, the quote is not from me, and I can't remember correctly, but here goes:
"To say that the Earth is the only populated planet in the whole Universe is absurd as to assert that in a field sown with seeds, only one grain will grow."
-- Can't remember name, some 400-500 BC greek philosipher
Something to that effect anyway... ---
