which parts need cleaned up?
they are all pretty consistent across the board.
and who cares how many languages there are. each one fits a different purpose, whether they are small niches or big sweeping frameworks like Java, does it really bother you that someone, somewhere just went 'yes, this is perfect for me'?
I am no networking Guru by any means, but after listening to the mp3, I don't see how this isn't fixable. Just based on the way routers will 'continue to spit out the same packet over and over' seems like a pure implementation issue of the TCP/IP stack.
Please correct me if I am wrong, but I don't see how this cannot be fixed. Another super-scary (and warrantless) slashdot headline and summary IMHO.
yea, I agree they are still overpriced. I wouldn't mind purchasing one, but theres no way in hell I'm spending 500 bucks. Unfortunately, because of Comcast's horrid compression rates, and the video game systems supporting only a paltry set of native 1080p games, nothing I have even takes advantage of the 1080p my TV supports! If I could travel back in time, I'd save the 800 bucks I spent for '1080P'.
in my experience, Comcast has been better than Verizon (which blocks tons of ports, and has slower speeds) or SpeakEasy (which bill you for every additional feature, and do very strange things to their network at times).
I have not had the opportunity to use FiOS, but I would imagine there are downsides to that as well.
I don't ever exceed the 250GB cap, so Comcast has always provided me with the most Bang for my Buck. I have even downloaded movies at times *shush* and have never had a noticeable speed problem. (their HD TV channels suck, but their internet rules) I almost want to know where these critics live, because in Pittsburgh and my subsequent move to Atlanta, Comcast IS better than the alternatives (Charter Cable anyone?)
well, considering NAT'ing is such a popular technology, are you suggesting a company with 10,000 employees sharing a single or a few IP's, will only be counted 1 time?
I don't see the difference, technically speaking, when it comes to FTP or HTTP and IP addresses.
You are wrong to believe FTP counters are somehow so much more accurate than HTTP counters.
Their intentions may have been grand, but I've done a lot of 'sciency' stuff over the years, and false-positive rates for a web-counter like that are usually pretty high.
LOL, I guess I had that coming.
Now I find the idea even more hilarious.
I love all meat references.
Screw the car-analogy people. Explain how this situation affects me in terms of meats!

>What astounds me the most is that American justice depends on one's ability to pay the most.
Have you ever studied history? Anywhere?
Just like prostitution is the oldest profession, people with piles of money usually get their way.
actually that's exactly what it means.
if you don't have bundles of hardware to replace and upgrade, you don't have to spend as much money building your network.

I was on the verge of going either way, but this comment sealed the deal!
Thank You Anonymous Coward!

if only they had this on the international space station. :)
I, for one, welcome our petabyte-Pr0n-collecting overloards.
people that stupid would break the thing anyway.
at least we know the constitution will prevent the installation of this machine in the US. *shrugs*
No, you are wrong, and this is the mindset that scares me in the computing world.
If a custom box running JoeOS contains something extremely financially valuable, you can bet people will start trying to hack it.
Security through Obscurity is not only wrong, but terrifying that people buy into the concept.
and dont forget OS X.
as 'stable' and 'secure' as that is marketed, all it takes is a few dollar signs and someone will find an exploit somewhere.
either that, or we'll all have bulging ripped giant shoulders.

yea but seriously, what does this number even mean??
I doubt exactly, 8,002,530 people installed it and are using it. You know there were plenty of anti-microsoft nerds who downloaded it 50 times each.
We might as well just stick to bandwidth measurements, in which case YouTube would smash the above record.
I'm happy FF 3.0 is out and all, but I don't really see the big deal in this number.
I'm no brain-scientist, but I imagine 'upgrading' to a GigE switch (as you put it) would more likely be a downgrade.
i hate you all! j/k
haha, thanks for posting as an AC :(
Now it looks like I'm trying to game the moderation system.
