A greed... I mean I agree. It amazes me that these corporations / organizations still do not get it. People who pirate digital content had no intention on buying the content to begin with so their claims of lost revenue is bogus. Most people will pay for content they value. Concentrate on making products people value and they will pay up. Boycott the content these fools are selling, let them rot in their own idiocy.

  3. Re:I never trusted the whole cloud thing on Why Cloud Storage Is Lousy For Enterprises (and Individuals) · · Score: 1

The idea of cloud computing has merit, in that you can store your data on multiple storage facilities in secure data centers and limit your own responsibility (and liability) by not having to purchase/maintain the systems yourself. However, and this is the big deal with cloud computing... you don't own the infrastructure. Someone else does and this can cause a huge problem down the line when your data gets locked up or lost. If you are a decent sized corporation with some money and lawyers, you can fight the cloud vendor and protect yourself to some extent. It would be unwise for the individual to use cloud computing for anything more than email because individuals have less rights than a business who has lawyers to sue and fight for them if their data is lost "in the cloud". So, aside from the technical possibilities such as using fiber, IPSec, MPLS, or some other media/protocols to improve performance/security of data transmission to/from the cloud to your organization, the serious concerns of availability come into play. No company who would take cloud computing or IaaS as a business will take all liability. Caveat emptor is still in play. I am personally not ready to store my important data "in the cloud". Businesses may be able to get away with it if they have good lawyers.

I don't have an all-Mac house, but we have 2 MBP's, a white MB, and an airport extreme and my costs aren't any higher than if I had all-PC. Student discounts has helped me out a lot. It is just propaganda. Buy a Mac if you want to, if not, don't. Nothing to see here.

  8. Final Windows desktop OS? on Windows 7 To Come In Multiple Versions · · Score: 1

Sell a single version for crying out loud. Microsoft is showing their dinosaur teeth. The multi-version business model has seen it's day. If they care to compete they should only release a single version that has everything. Just my opinion. I think they realize that the OS is no longer on their level of interest. Is Windows 7 the final desktop OS?

  10. meh. on LucasArts Embargoes "Clone Wars" Reviews · · Score: 1

I personally got over the franchise a long time ago. There are many people where their childhood was heavily influenced by the world Lucas created/borrowed/repackaged/etc. It's pretty sad. I am starting to think that Lucas laughs at fans of Star Wars for being far too interested in something so meaningless. At least Star Trek (TV show - a couple of the movies were OK) had truly interesting stories to tell (based in human psychology and morality) and gave a glimpse of what mankind could be at it's best. Star Wars is eye candy and marketing. Lucas knows this and secretly (or not?) laughs all the way to the bank.

  11. Carcarius on EFF Warns That Email Privacy Is In Jeopardy · · Score: 1

How much sensitive information is being shared via email anyway? The government can parse every single piece of email transmitted over the net but all they will likely find is false-positives and intel designed to misdirect. Or do they think they can succeed in getting valid intel through reverse psychology. "We are looking at every email over the 'net... or are we? " We no longer live in an age where we have any realistic expectation of privacy. If you want your communications to be private, don't use an inherently public device (the internet) to communicate with.

That band is dead to me. I won't even listen to them on the radio. I was never that big a fan of them but their actions during the whole Napster thing turned me off on them for good. They are greedy and obviously sold out not long after they started out in the business.
