I would still not see the point of Automatix, as Feisty does handle most of the work that Automatix used to do, but they do deserve some credit. Automatix2, the modern version, doesn't use all of the dangerous --force flags and random edits to sources.list that the original did, but nobody ever noticed that they fixed it. So I would say Automatix is just unnecessary, but not dangerous any longer.
On the one hand, you will not need to run GNOME (Metacity) or KDE (kwin) in order to get fancy eyecandy. On the other hand, nor will you be running fluxbox any longer if you want the capabilities of Beryl and Compiz.
If you want Beryl or Compiz, then you use either Beryl or Compiz. They are, indeed, window managers themselves (just with compositing capabilities).
So, unfortunately, you may either stick with the simple beauty of flux, or go with the powerful beauty of Beryl/Compiz. But there is no good combination for you, currently.
I am allowed to vote for any party or not vote at all in this country. I am allowed to attend any church or temple or shrine I desire (or attend none at all, if that's my preference). I can sit online and discuss my political views freely, without being whisked away by secret police. Between the open internet and other sources of information in this country, I can obtain countless sides of all issues so that I can see more of the truth and formulate my own opinions of what goes on in America.
I'm supposed to believe that these are my civil liberties being violated to the fullest extent possible?
Too many liberals in America are becoming overly exaggerated in their desire to slander and attack the current administration and most sensible conservatives. They say our country has similar rights to oppressive and fascist states. But we can spit on the president's name as well as praise him, without being shot on sight by soldiers. We can peruse the internet freely, without the extreme censorship that occurs in China and even in far less restrictive nations. What have been our recent losses of freedom in America? DRM? I hate DRM as much as the next Slashdotter, but I swear that it is nothing compared to living in fear of your own life.
And our churches? Liberals try to portray America as a theocratic dictatorship ruled by iron-fisted Christians. They try to draw correlations between the mainline / fundamentalist Christians (like myself, who are often well-educated with scientific backgrounds) and the radical Muslim extremists and terrorists who are devoted to our country's utter annihilation. Christians stand for love where the terrorists stand for hate. Christians offer hope, where the terrorists offer no solution but death. Once again, you are free to worship (or not) wherever you want - our government will not kill you! We will not imprison you for being Hindu or Sikh or atheist or Jew or agnostic. You are 100% free to believe whatever you like.
I'm tired of the venom on Slashdot! This is not 1984, despite your wild-eyed fears! America still stands for freedom!
I wish to commend you, sir. Too many people overlook the library when it comes to obtaining music and movies. It's nearly always been my method of getting them easily, safely, and with high quality.
I use our county library's online card catalog to search for and put holds on movies or CDs, then just wait one or two days until I receive a phone call telling me that they're ready. Then it's just a minor stop on my way home from work, and I have pristine (if slightly smudgy) copies of whatever movie soundtrack or Beatles album or even latest hit that I want. For free. And possibly legally too (?), since I don't know where the law stands when it comes to ripping from a legally obtained CD, or whether it's a gray area that nobody mentions.
