I agree, and all, but here's my question: actually, i need an opinion: I have a good sysadmin job in a (mostly) Windows network. I have the oportunity (because of investments) to quit and go back to get a BSCS. I'm currently un-degreed. Either coding, or larger scale sysadminning is what I want to do. The professor that I spoke with at the university that I want to go to said that the market is always good for good programmers. Am I quitting a good job and jumping out into iffy prospects after I graduate? Or is my current situation even more precarious because of my lack-of-degree? Thanks.

So, as per the subject, does a BSCS from a good 4 year school put one at the top of the food chain as far as qualifications go? I'd be sacrificing a lot to do this, but it's doable, and it's what I REALLY want to do. Thoughts?

see, the thing is that the CS guys don't take many business courses, so, they don't know that your product MUST have failure built in. car companies have been doing it for 30 years. Boeing does NOT do it because they would kill people. what good is it to dell or hp if you don't buy a new computer every couple of years??
I have a great job as an IS director and I've been back in school for a year. I also have a wonderful wife and four kids. I'm able to do it because a) my employer supports me (not financially). b) my wife supports me (she does all my backend paperwork, finds out what classes i need... she's awesome). c) my university (Cal State Northridge) has a special night program for students like me (BS/MIS). d) I receive money from my GI Bill ($1000/mo!) It all depends upon how badly you want it, too.
If this guy in the article doesn't sound like a preacher. "spread the word, my flock. go forth and tell the good news" jeez. that'll scare me away, and i USE *nix.
*thinking out loud* maybe, just maybe, Microsoft has planted code trashers somewhere among the Linux kernel development chain? because we know that they've AT LEAST hired them away from it.

it would seem, of course, that the crackers are inDEED owned by micro$oft. isn't it obvious? only open-source related sites would be targeted by m$ employees (employed directly or paid by Igor on the corner).

have you installed *any* late version distro? it's brainless to keep updated. now go reboot your 'doze servers before they crash!
