All linux distributions have been rooted at one time or another. A live disk of Ubuntu can be compromised until rebooted, but since ubuntu Live disks are root by default lets not pretend that ubuntu live disks are safe. Firefox plugins can still be compromised or users could be unwittingly instructed to do something that could compromise their system.
I just hope that they create a custom(ubuntu based) bootable disk that only runs a browser, with limited packages and no browser plugins and only allows you to go to the website with the banks certificate. Anything less would provide a false sense of security to those who don't understand the risks.
Have you ever used the unstable branch? I was playing around with some of the new KMS ati support, but Lucid still has way more problems them Karmic. I like to torture myself with the unstable branch(I may need help). I think old and tested is less "broken" than new and unstable.
The release cycle of Ubuntu is comparable to Windows. The current stable kernel is from September 2009. ALSA is from May 2009. If you want updated versions you can suffer with me using the unstable branch and have a few hickups that require you to reinstall or technical fixes. It not a matter of using old versions though. Windows gets support for hardware first because they have more market share. It still takes them a long time to get updates and drivers out to the public.
I say the passengers for the flight get to take a vote to see who gets to go through the body scanning machine. I doubt you'll get a flight full of pedophiles, but some kids seem capable of blowing things up
Car companies have been developing car networks which would probably have similar requirements for satellites. Actuators and electrical control units are in cars and in satellites.
FlexRay is currently under development. With a few modifications I'm sure it could be adapted to work in a satellite. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FlexRay
Scientists are human, and they are subject to social prejudices and bias just like the rest of the species.
If science is bias then it is no longer science; it's faith. I would ague that bias human being are no longer scientists. Of course we are all fallible, but scientists are typically characterized by their open minds. Global warming has become a religion. I've even heard people regard Al Gore as a prophet.
Why are we assuming that a volcano that spews billions of tons of CO2 into the atmosphere can affect weather but us doing the same every year has no affect?
Humans sources of CO2 are about 3% of Natural emissions. Volcanoes aren't the biggest source of natural emissions of CO2. Volcanoes release particles that cause a cooling(not warming) effect which could last up to a decade if the eruption is big enough. Quit using arguments like this and maybe we can have a real debate.
It amazes me with things like the IBM QS21 and the mercury blade servers that the cheapest solution is to get a piece of hardware like the ps3 with so many extra components not needed for number crunching.
The cell was designed for floating point calculations. Cracking requires a lot of integer calculations. You won't get the benefits that science and graphic applications get like folding@home.
But privacy advocates are concerned that Saga, whose primary interest is bottom-line profits, will opt to sell subscriber data — possibly in an anonymized form to researchers and pharmaceutical companies. Academic researchers have shown that anonymized data can be correlated with other data to identify people.
Once anonymized DNA data would become next to worthless. Hopefully there is a good privacy policy.
The "free" movies from Comcast on-demand suck and I would imagine those costs are somehow worked into your Comcast bill. I can't imagine free movies would be that great if they are only ad supported. Hollywood wouldn't give the rights to any movie actually worth seeing unless you pay the expensive royalties.
I mean, we gave our users poker chips if they downloaded this Zwinky toolbar, which was like, I don't know... I downloaded it once and couldn't get rid of it.
Hijackthis would usually get rid of most toolbars. Firefox toolbars are easier to get rid of.
There is such a thing as too much monitoring. If the cost of the monitoring system is more than the amount stolen it's not worth it. In this case a simple system could probably cost less than $9 million and prevented this. A company must have intuition to preempt the costs of theft. Many businesses, especially retail, actually expect theft and factor this into their costs.
If you're running a casino you must invest lots in security because the cost of losing a lot of money is very real and worth the investment.
A small mom and pop store might have a digital recording camera, just in case someone gets mugged, but who has the time to watch all that tape.
Stealing is stealing and the cost effects everyone.
Those types of deliveries are protected by law. 5 years in prison I believe. There are no laws that apply to e-mail. Easy solution is to encrypt all your e-mails you expect to be private.
you will never hear a gm employee call it an accident.
...really? Does a disaster have to be an accident to be classed as a disaster?
Do as the automotive industry does. Call it a Nuclear incident.

maybe it will work in linux. Flash has a poor record

It should be less than $160 and will probably give you the best performance when using N. Never tried it though.
is a netbook built into my pants and an mp3 player built into my shirt.

the mythbusters tried to get power from the em radiation from a high voltage line. That doesn't work nothing will.

if it mattered that much then a site that only rents 28 day old wb movies would show up. I doubt that there is that much demand.
Gold is about the only thing that's going to be worth anything by 2018. Maybe they should be phasing out cash too.

Tribalism is not really a strong enough word.

Rhino liner works great

Microsoft doesn't need to control open source. Microsoft just needs to put it in a pretty box that someone is willing to pay for.
I haven't tried it, but it exists.Have fun

I've never lost my wallet... I know it's around here somewhere.
BTW, you've just gave a cracker a dictionary file.

Maybe we should bailout the science and technology companies.
