All linux distributions have been rooted at one time or another. A live disk of Ubuntu can be compromised until rebooted, but since ubuntu Live disks are root by default lets not pretend that ubuntu live disks are safe. Firefox plugins can still be compromised or users could be unwittingly instructed to do something that could compromise their system.

I just hope that they create a custom(ubuntu based) bootable disk that only runs a browser, with limited packages and no browser plugins and only allows you to go to the website with the banks certificate. Anything less would provide a false sense of security to those who don't understand the risks.

I was playing around with some of the new KMS ati support, but Lucid still has way more problems them Karmic. I like to torture myself with the unstable branch(I may need help). I think old and tested is less "broken" than new and unstable.

The release cycle of Ubuntu is comparable to Windows. The current stable kernel is from September 2009. ALSA is from May 2009. If you want updated versions you can suffer with me using the unstable branch and have a few hickups that require you to reinstall or technical fixes. It not a matter of using old versions though. Windows gets support for hardware first because they have more market share. It still takes them a long time to get updates and drivers out to the public.

Why are we assuming that a volcano that spews billions of tons of CO2 into the atmosphere can affect weather but us doing the same every year has no affect?

Humans sources of CO2 are about 3% of Natural emissions. Volcanoes aren't the biggest source of natural emissions of CO2. Volcanoes release particles that cause a cooling(not warming) effect which could last up to a decade if the eruption is big enough. Quit using arguments like this and maybe we can have a real debate.

In this case a simple system could probably cost less than $9 million and prevented this. A company must have intuition to preempt the costs of theft. Many businesses, especially retail, actually expect theft and factor this into their costs.

If you're running a casino you must invest lots in security because the cost of losing a lot of money is very real and worth the investment.
