That is probably true. But the initial arguments with Microsoft were that they were pushing everyone else out of the market by including a browser. Later on their excuse became that they were too stupid to remove it once it was in.
Not to sound like a troll, but it's *exactly* such thinking that gets Microsoft into so much trouble.
I find it interesting how MS integrating a web-browser is tantamount to evil, but Apple shipping with a word processor seems to be pretty well accepted.
It's when there are other things that *ought* to be getting done, but we're too busy using *the same technology* to make life enjoyable and *not* doing those things.
Those bastards! Making life enjoyable! Man this really churns my butter!
Initial offer of $15,000,000. That's immediately with no questions asked. Little information about what is needed, and without going to congress.
But why do I bother. It's GWBush! You'll just hate him no matter what he does. I'm sure I won't hear any praise now no matter what the US government does.
They financed America's Revolutionary War for independence
By "They" you mean "The Dutch" right? The Dutch did more to fund the US war of independance than the French ever did. The French gave us some weapons, and military support. But most importantly (from France at least) we got to give a big middle finger to England (we'll just trade with France then); which helped with negotiations.
The *point* is that we don't get international aid. Thus we must take care of our own expenses in this regard.
Also, as many others have pointed out, the US federal government is only part of the money given from the US. Private citizens are collecting and donating money as well. We're not like Europe. We believe much more firmly in the private sector. The "feds" don't do everything for us.
From what I've read (don't have a link handy) GPS is not corrected with leap seconds. And thus is currently several seconds ahead of UTC because of this. So this speed-up shouldn't effect GPS at all.
AFAIK *current* time isn't so important to GPS as the difference in time between signals. Just so they all agree what time it is at any given moment (even if they agree incorrectly, just so long as it's the same number).
Actually, the Red Cross has been asking for cash more than goods. It's quicker and easier to ship money (done electronicaly) and they can buy the goods closer to the catastrophe. It costs them money to ship out clothing et al, and it's slower.
You find it hard to believe that a 10-year old child isn't familiar with events that occured nearly 50 years before he was born? Why?
It always seemed strangely "elitist" of adults to say things like "You don't know who the vice-president was in the '40s?" to a child or teenager. Sure, they may not. But you probably don't know who the current #1 hit is from either (or some such fact that the current kids know).
Last time I was visiting my parents, my dad had a bunch of old radio shows on CD-ROM (he'd burned them as mp3's). We listened to them for a couple hours on one drive. They were great! A little tacky, but still pretty fun.
I still think "Who's on First?" is one of the funniest skits on any medium ever.
They grabbed a bunch of 1337 kiddies and showed them old games. Big deal. Some kids will still appreciate older games, many won't.
Not all truth can be arrived at through the scientific method. For example, it's true that my parents love me, but establishing a double-blind study to prove it would be difficult.
You know you're getting old, btw, when everything new prompts the question "why should I care?" You can stick with your rods/hogshead while the rest of us move on.
Does it cost more to save their house than somebody elses? If I'm not mistaken, the amount of "burden" the wealthy put on society is much lower than the poor. Yet the amount of money they put in is much much higher.

My $0.02.

My personal agenda hasn't gained ground. Therefore blogs aren't working.

How much did Australia, France, Spain, England, and the UN send to Florida?

Oh, and I'm *not* full of shit either.

:-)
Ahhh, but you can *ask* them.
Whups! Bloody... Didn't even think about it.
Pearl harbor. *grin*
"Remember the Alamo" is a rallying point *bacause* it was a military disaster (and a display of huge personal sacrifice). Like Perl harbor, or 9/11.
Especially since everyone at the Alamo was killed. It's supposed to remind those who are alive what they gave in support of their cause.
Or you could realize the maintainer is French, and speaks English as a second language?
Er... Use the CD (lite) version? Perhaps?
Slashdot: Where personal oppinion is fact!
I'll wait for that, I think.
Yes, you will... This is a *prototype* still.

I stand corrected. Communism then. It doesn't work (at least not in anything larger than a small group). Nice idea though. Not terribly realistic.
But, in America there is currently no levy/tax on mp3 players that I know of.
So you're preaching socialism. Redistribution of wealth. Tell me, what happens when nobody is "above the average?"
What?!?! Are you serious about that? Me having more money is a burden to you? How in the world do you justify that?
Does it cost more to save their house than somebody elses? If I'm not mistaken, the amount of "burden" the wealthy put on society is much lower than the poor. Yet the amount of money they put in is much much higher.
They are indeed paying more than their share.
So are the incredibly wealthy. Think about it. They are taxed *far* more than they take advantage of.
