So... choosing not to participate in something, without trying to stop anyone who wants to from participating in it... and wanting basic property rights to be respected in the form of being left alone by vandals, trespassers, and other criminals... that makes someone a jerk?
What a freedom-loving people we have become.
Apparently it is. This was an actual post on our neighborhood forum last year. There were at least 40 houses that *did* hand out candy. IMO opinion more than enough participation for the kids to have a good time. It drives me nuts when I see crap like this.
Neighbors,
I'm sitting here at my house on Halloween night, disappointed about the lack of
participation in our neighborhood. Standing on the corner of XXX Court and
XXX Drive, I could count 11 houses without their lights on. The younger
children in our neighborhood very much look forward to this day and to have only
a few homes join in the festivities is a major disappointment.
Umm, yeah. Too lazy/not schooled enough to do the maths. I guess my point is, whatever technology Google/MS/etc has and the public has access to, the government most likely has several order of magnitudes better tech. So you say imperfect mirrors of 2 or 3 meters. what are the odds they have nearly perfect mirrors of 7 or 10 meters? Or whatever ( I have no clue what that would translate into mathematically/optically). Or some crazy ass tech that we aren't aware of yet. The government does a lot of things really poorly, but I think when it comes to spying/military/defense/etc, they do a damn good job of keeping ahead of the private sector (or buying them out) and other governments. Hell, LASERS can eavesdrop from a distance now, right? Who would have ever though light could be used to capture sound...
As soon as the spy satellite images are good enough to resolve pubic hairs, the Chinese hackers will be all over them.
You don't think the government satellites don't have that type of imagery yet? Google Earth scares the shit out of me b/c I cannot imagine WTF the government has with their technology.
I would almost think this would be the only option, unless the owner of the laptop doesn't have a password. I can't imagine the average laptop thief would know how to crack a password anyway, but would pass it off/sell it to someone that was somewhat computer savvy.
Child: That's funny, cause it looks like the same position you and Mommy make sometimes when I hear strange sounds.
I must be doing it wrong. T-Rex-style and BJs coincidentally ended shortly before the birth of my kid.:-/ I sure wish I had to make up a crazy story of what mommy and daddy were doing...
The jumper settings were usually listed on the drives themselves.
Sometimes. And then there were issues when trying to use drives from two different manufacturers in the same system. Many times simply choosing the master/slave option wouldn't work. I remember drives that refused to be the slave, regardless of jumper settings. Throw in a CDROM drive and that could really bugger things up. And there was not much of an Internet to look the settings up. It was a boon when HDs started to standardize their jumpers with only three options - Master/Slave/CableSelect. Not necessarily related to hard drives, I did learn a hell of a lot when I had to depend on that 500 page DOS book for all my information and I had no peers to get help from. Or call tech support, waiting for 45+ minutes, to talk to someone. And the damn numbers were rarely toll free back then as well. Ug.
Why, without heavy surveillance, Yankees might invade,
I guess you've never been to Atlanta. The Yankees invaded years ago. I'd wager there are more folks from the NE in Atlanta than people that were actually born in the Atlanta metro area. And they all bitch about how much better it is in NY et al. Never understood that one. Yankee go home!;-)
(Western) Europe seems to have some pretty damn competitive cellular plans and nearly 100% coverage. I don't see the problem. Because it's more efficient, right?
I might be sounding wishy-washy about the customer service enthusiasm, but seriously. It was a DRAMATIC change. It already seemed like the call centers were moved to AT&T.
You are wishy-washy. Considering absolutely nothing has changed with either organization since the merger announcement, what do you think the problem is? When is the last time you called an AT&T call center?
Wouldn't the same skill sets be required from the "destroyed" jobs to handle the "created" jobs? If not, then it sounds like the "destroyed" jobs should not have existed in the first place.
To be fair, AT&T looks to promote from within (which does not necessarily increase the skill of their workforce), but generally *does* increase the skill level of its employees.
They would be eliminating one of their main competitors, laying off way more than 5000 (more skilled!) workers, and opening the way to raising their prices by grabbing a customer base with even less choice and jacking up their rates.
Are you implying that AT&T employees are less skilled than T-Mobile employees?
Umm. AT&T has been buying out the "independents" for the last several years so they don't have to deal with roaming agreements. It won't be long before the rest are swallowed up.
This is about denying spectrum. You may not be aware that Sprint was set to buy T-Mobile for $10B less than AT&T. How could T-Mobile be worth more to AT&T unless they intended to engage in anticompetitive behavior?
Why would Sprint want a company that has cell service on an incompatible network/technology? To take advantage of the roaming deals with AT&T? I'm not sure about the ROI on that one. Of course, they *did* buy Nextel....
I should have clarified; it's only slow on Slashdot. I guess it's something to do with the code on this site. I've done most of the speed tweaks except for overclocking and I am very satisfied with the Touchpad so far.

I have the same problem with my PC (built in 2008) and all of the Steam sales I've bought into over the past year.
You have the option of choosing your boot OS. I am enjoying my Android based Touchpad.

Did you mean Repo Men and not Rain Man?

How many big company CEOs actually put themselves in the commercials? Shows me he is personally invested in the success of Sprint.
Dave Thomas, may he RIP
And look how well that has worked out for them....
So it might be worth 1B or so for DT to bribe the DoJ??

This. The deal will go through. What's a few (hundred) million dollars of greased palms in the shadow of a few extra billion a year in *profit*?
-- AT&T - English speaker, sounded southern;
A lot of the (ex-Cingular) AT&T call centers are in Atlanta. I believe they have dedicated Spanish speaking call centers in the Miami area.

The problem is it is slow as hell.
