It's hard to beat free though. One person's junk is another person's treasure. I'll put random "junk" out with the trash that Goodwill won't even take and invariably one of my neighbors will grab it before the trash truck makes its rounds. It's kind of scary as I feel like I live in a fairly nice neighborhood and I would think my neighbors wouldn't want this "junk" either. /shrug

And that's one of the rare phones that actually has a keyboard... it's worse with the touchscreen. If I'm in the field, it is usually faster to simply spell it phonetically over the phone, rather than trying to write a text or an e-mail on my phone. And gods help anybody who's stuck using T-9.

You don't have an iPhone, do you? I've had one for about 3 weeks now (employer issued) and I hate the auto-correct/predictive text on it vs a Droid based device. I am much more efficient with emails/text on a Droid device vs an iPhone. No clue if either use T-9, but I'm guessing that's more of an early Blackberry function?

I agree that what the hunters did was wrong, but not sure why you would imply they were drunken. As for shooting a gun in the direction of people, that happens all the time (in Dove hunting, for example) and is completely safe. From the video you can't tell exactly how high the RC is, but there did not appear to be any danger in shooting the RC at the perceived elevation. You are also implying the people were between the hunters and the RC, which I do not believe was the case either. It's all hard to tell from the POV of the video that was taken.

From the YouTube video posted earlier, you don't actually see where the drone crashed.

I believe there was a study or at least some research as to why this was the case and might possibly be related to what you read at some point.

yup. Books in the home is another interesting metric.

Steven Levy addressed this in his book "Freakonomics". He found that although "books in the home" is correlated with better performance in school, once you correct for the IQ of the parents, it actually makes no difference at all.

People come up with a lot of "theory of the day" explanations for improving education, but the biggest determinants of a child's performance are the IQ of the biological parents, and their birth weight. Instead of spending billions on the schools, maybe we should first spend 0.001% of that on folic acid supplements for pregnant women, and encouraging breast feeding. It would make a bigger difference.

So what does birth weight and parent's IQ have to do with breastfeeding?

Ultima 7 was developed on something like a 386-33, but the target platform was a 386sx-16, if I remember the Ultima Dragons newsgroup correctly. The big problem they had was that the program was 16-bit, but needed to be able to access far more than the usual 640k in order to work correctly. After an enormous amount of optimisation, they got about 1 fps if they used swap, 4fps if they used XMS, 6fps via EMS and a whopping 16fps by using the flat-realmode hack on the 386. It was only that which allowed the game to ship, and it made the game pretty much impossible to run under Windows 95 and later until DOSbox came along.
