  1. Where is far? on The Next Big Thing — Why Web 2.0 Isn't Enough · · Score: 4, Funny
Go to far and you no longer have access to information.

Where is this place "far" that you speak of and why can't we access information there? I feel bad for anyone from "far". Oh! You meant too far!

I understand but come on it changes the meaning and more importantly makes it difficult to read. Quick proof read next time please.

  2. Re:Do class action suits ever benefit the consumer on Courts Reject Tech Corporation Bans on Class Action Suits · · Score: 4, Insightful
Well while class action suits are about benefiting the customers who were wronged, it`s also about punishing the companies that are misbehaving. While each individual consumer may not gain a great sum of money, the sum for the whole group may make the company change policies.

This is not to mention the bad publicity that comes from losing a major class action suit. That's probably where the most harm comes to a company in the long run. In this case the adage that "Any publicity is good publicity" is probably wrong as these are already well known entities. Of course the only "public" that hears about this may only be slashdot, which has the numbers to take down a server, but probably not a Fortune 500.

  3. Why not in the Bronx? on New York Plans Surveillance Veil For Downtown · · Score: 1
Hmmm why put this system in lower Manhattan and not in an area where serious crime is a real concern? Such as the Bronx perhaps? Where in 2006 there were over 4 times as many murders and rapes, over 2 times as many robberies, and over 3 times as many felony assaults. NYPD

Look I understand that this is DHS money but honestly the return on investment on this for terrorism prevention is probably close to nil, or small enough that other locations for the system should be considered. It`s basically the wealthy and generally already safe population of Manhattan getting an added security blanket while the poor (and non-white to be honest) get screwed again.

  4. Voice Changing Technology on Voice Chat Can Really Kill the Mood · · Score: 5, Insightful

Wouldn't the logical expansion of the role playing game be to implement voice changing technology? That would make the game completely immersive and allow anyone to assume an identity completely different from themselves and project the image that they want to into the game not their own selves, which is probably a big draw of the game in the first place. This would really take MMORPGs to another level where the online self is completely separate from the "real life" person. Honestly (in some sense) it's unfortunate for that 11 year old in the game that he was judged later on based on his voice and not just skills in the game. Nobody said you needed to have certain skills and a baritone voice to be a successful leader.

Those aren't public folders or a public university. Boston University is a private institution and while many people have access to those folders, the public does not. BU is an expensive school to be at and those students pay quite a bit to have access to those folders.

I don't know if desperation move is exactly the thing to call this. I think it's more being innovative and taking steps to embrace technology to help move the sport forward. The league knows it needs to change its ways or basically die and being the first league to really embrace technology could help it survive. It's not the most pressing issue but it will help. The league really needs to contract a few teams, and restructure the style of play to the way it once was. Open up the ice, eliminate the trap, and reduce the size of goalies pads for starters would be good. The other leagues have a long history of viciously protecting their television rights and any technological advancements have always scared owners of pro teams. Baseball wasn't put on television until much later than it should have been because owners thought no one would show up for the games if they could just watch it on television. They were obviously proved wrong, media and technology have done nothing but add to the promotion of sport yet the owners still can't acknowledge this as new technologies arise. In my opinion anything that exposes the sport to more people is positive for the game, and I`m glad a league is finally taking a step to embrace new technological capabilities.

It looks like two of them guys who were hired to place them around the city were arrested on felony charges late Wednesday night.

Peter Berdovsky, 27, of Arlington, and Sean Stevens, 28, of Charlestown, were arrested Wednesday night on one felony charge of placing a hoax device and one charge of disorderly conduct each, state Attorney General Martha Coakley said.

Seriously this is pretty sad if there are felony charges for something as harmless as this. Intent should at least be considered.

_giving_ a 16 year old a car is the STUPIDEST thing ANY parent could do at that point.

Absolutely not, there are plenty of people that at the age of 16 can handle the responsibility of a car. Just because you think you or some people you know couldn't handle it doesn't mean the same for everyone. It's the parents decision whether or not their child can handle the responsibility. Yes we all have stories about teenagers wrecking cars etc at a young age but of course MOST people can handle it, you just don't hear about it. If they couldn't handle it the laws would have been changed long ago. But for you to make a sweeping generalization about 16 year olds because of a few personal experiences is just wrong. Not to mention the added benefits of actually having the car which can include transportation to a job which is an excellent way to be more responsible and learn about life.
