  1. Cheap hardware? on China Readies Royalty-Free DVD Format · · Score: -1, Redundant

While on one hand there has been a massive influx of low cost DVD hardware with better features than the big brand names, isn't this a little late? With the high capacities of Blu-Ray and HD-DVD this might be a little late for the West. Then again, if we're all still buying 35 euro DVD players that are playing multi region, DivX and this is thrown in who knows? Hollywood just might be sold on it if they think they can save money along the way on royalties and the like.

No a Zero-Day exploit is one which is capable of exploiting on or before the vulnerability is discovered/made public. So the author was possibly the only one with knowledge of the vulnerability. Wiki Article Of course the usual amount of misunderstanding of the terminology has diluted the meaning somewhat.

This has always been a problem for the Free Software Foundation. Linus as mentioned has always been more pragmatic. He use the GPL because it did what he needed, but the Stallmanites have pushed their own agenda with his face on the front. It's back to the old GNU/Linux argument. We all know linux is just the kernel, but there is no need to go against common usage and force the GNU prefix in there. They didn't call it GNU/AIX or GNU/HP-UX when the GNU utilities were used there. Thankfully Torvalds is strong enough to speak for himself.

  4. Unoriginal? on A Close(r) Look At OLPC Human Interface Guidelines · · Score: 0

This UI is quite simply one of the deepest and most interesting redesigns of the desktop user interface ever produced. It makes MacOS look like what it is -- boring and unoriginal. I think there are a lot of interesting aspects to the GUI, but as it is it doesn't make much sense outside of a project like OLPC. If of course the above quote referred to MacOS 2, then maybe but it looks more like something from that generation. Calling modern interfaces unoriginal beside olpc is a stretch in my opinion.

It was a tongue in cheek comment, I actually said Jebus to avoid that interpretation. It was only making fun of the crazies who use his name. I agree it shouldn't have been modded insightful, but hey it certainly wasn't flamebait.

The education system in my country is considered to be one of the best in the world. I use perfectly correct grammar at all times but I do see that this approach is sensible. For several years now this has been in place in our schools. Unless you are specifically testing English grammar then it should not count against you. Someone who has a perfectly good understanding of History should not be penalised on their history score because their English is not good enough. Even English Literature is a measure of Literary knowledge and understanding, not grammar.
