In my country there is a golden rule, when walking on a street with no sidewalks you have to walk on a side where you face the incoming traffic so when a car passes you, you are actually seeing it from a distance. Failing to do so increases your liability for potential injury.
Theres another thing about it, when downloading something from p2p network you have many sources (unless only one person has the file and you are the only person downloading), so actually there is little chance you get one full file from particular person.
Technically the damage would be much less than uploading one whole file, because only fraction of each file has been transmitted, additionally particular fractions transmitted from one source are probably not enough to build whole file. So this person haven't even uploaded whole files with music. Determining how many people actually downloaded from this person and how much of a portion of the file may be impossible but I think it would be just small amount of each file. What if total amount for each file would be under lets say 15s, wouldn't it then be a fair use or something?
Just a thought tho.
Meh, it looks more like another 24 plot... Those nukes haven't been there just by accident, some terrorists took control over the plane and its load but they didn't anticipated Jack being on board too. After all the government just had to make up a story, so people won't panic. Tune up for the newest episodes soon in your cable TV.
Anyhow, no worries, subtitle scene - run by enthusiasts, will survive. Napisy.org will move their servers to different country and will go as it was. The demand for subtitles is big so there will be always someone to fill in the gap, except next time it will be much harder for authorities to find out who is behind the service.

All the system will show to poor soldier is that their very ass should not be there in the first place, because brain knows it, the feeling is just suppressed by the training and whatever else reasons to be in the battlefield;)
Theres no reason whatsoever, for me at least. Once I've build a project management web application (just a small tool) for my clients to organize and formalize the changes and feature requests for websites I've been doing for them. At the end of the process there was a gateway to WorldPay service so they could use their credit card to pay for it:) I figured, there will be closed group using it so I can somehow enforce this group to not use MSIE and simply put a message asking to install either FF or Opera if visited with MSIE. Anyways WorldPay requires some kind of audit by their employees to enable the gateway so I had to submit a link and path of "clicks" for them to navigate successfully to gateway so they can check its not fraudulent or something. The WP representative send me message back, that my website is not loading in their MSIE and in order to pass the audit I need to do something about it... Duh! So life verifies it.
Now I'm implementing a CMS at one of Universities in Poland and the policy is simple, service must work with all major browsers, period. So there is one version of styles for normal browsers and separate for MSIE. And still majority of people there use MSIE simply because they can and they don't want to 'break' anything by installing other browsers:P
So anyway, even when trying to educate users about alternative browsers, there is sometimes no way to avoid working on solutions for MSIE.
If you're afraid games can compromise your children's perception of the world, you have failed as a parent. Parents are the first line to make sure children see the world in the proper way, games or television are not.
Parents should be fully responsible to protect and rise their children, not people who create games or tv programs, not even government or whatever else organization. If as a parent you need help of third parties you have failed. If your children can not rely on you as a parent and authority you have failed as a parent. Anyone who is trying to shift the responsibility out of parents is making great damage to families. Family is the first and foremost authority for children, then comes anything else. Taking it from parents means breaking families.
