Where will people learn that appending an "open" before any project is not necessarly equal with a a good thing? I really don't want to even imagine a movie where 45 people all add a part or the script and modify parts of it ad nauseum... "Sherlock opened the door and said with his energetic voice "I have scrambled eggs". Next day he came to a taverna and with his always lazy voice spoke to Watson while eating his favorite scrambled eggs"... bleh.
Believe it or not there are people switching both ways. Pharmacy in Sweden just switched it's Linuzzz servers to Windows 3000 one. And they are happy with it. No and nobody "forced" them to do so. No and their technicians are no idiots either.
Once again I expect to get beaten to death by zealots moderators but I really don't care. Getting karma back on slashdot is really easy screaming a pair of "linuzz rocks" and "OMG MS copies Apple again", so I don't care getting modded down by expressing MY opinion, which is as valid as anyone elses.
To the point: this is great news. The integration betwen Windows and Linuzzz (yes, the one that has been expected by years) is finally happening. The 2 sides are and will get better in this affair. MS must get better implementing the standards if they really want to get things working with OS community. I even expect them to get back a couple of interesting things to the community. Of course those who don't want to be "contaminated" by Redmond, will scream and cry, wanting to mantain their Little elitist system minoritary.... The problem here is that the times where Linuzzz was pure are over. LOTS of chash is being injected by Google, Sun, IBM, MS, so purity (whatever it is) is now over.
Integration and interoperability is a good thing and it is time to leave back all childchish discussions from both parts and learn to live together. MS is making steps towards this. Now the most conservative part of the other side is the REAL resistance.

They DO test a lot, but it's imposible to not have bugs especially with such a new beast like IPv6. Linuzzzz itself have a million of reported bugs with IPv6, which, again is not strange due to the relative new protocol.

And in many cases... just use the best tool... or the tool you like more. I use Windows Commander as my shell. Closed source. I don't care. I use SVN as my code versioning software. Don't care. I use RAR as my fav. compression format. Don't care about 7z. Software is just software. The "freedom" of using OS tools only is an ilussion.

They are different. And equal. They are just bytes in the end.

And you should add: with a lot of incompatibility. Not everything is about choices. There is NOT an absolute "best" or "better". You should say that in some things some of those desktops have gotten better. What is great for some people is a bleah for others. OSX zaealots may think that having a unique top menu is a great thing and blah blah while some studies done in Stanford university say that this is actually a big no-no in usability.
So there is NO "best" or better... Down with OS religion and prejudices!
The good thing? The same that saying that (for example) is a good thing getting technology X or Z ported to Linuzz (wherever it comes from). It's about what OS advocates tell all the time: about "freedom" (whatever that is)..net and silverlight (2 examples from the top of my head) is great technology that can't be ignored and having it ported and fully integrated with Linuzzz is a great options. Some purists like you won't be "contaminated" with anything from Redmond, but non-religious people will be glad with this. Use or not. It's an option.
I really think that this is a Good Thing for any involved part. For MS, they are actually rising theit contact with the Open Source movement and this will lead to an integration of their technology (like.net, silverlight and others) to Linuzzz.
For linuzz, this is actually an oportunity to raise their "status" for Joe Average, that doesn't even know what the hell Linuzzz is. This could also be an opportinity for Linuzzz to get a change to update it's desktop technology and maybe even get a little commercial help.
The only ones that should be crying for this are Linuzz and OS purists. As for me? I DON'T BELIEVE in software religion.

I mean, there will be as always fanboys living in the past wishing that SCII was SC, but I thing, if they keep the main gameplay (which is not too hard, because all strategy games are ****nearly**** the same) and then they add some better graphics, cool armies, weapons, music, etc... They have a winner there... Of course there will always be fanboys living in the past...(repeat at nauseum)
