Well for 93% of the population, Linux is as much an alternative to Windows as a Segway is to a car.
Have you taken some time to honestlt think WHY? And no, I don't buy the monopoly bullshit talk. You want people using Linux. make it GOOD for Christ sake!
the difference is obvious. people say that they are innovating with the 3d desktop thingy, etc, and that MS Windows are now obsolete. Well, the difference is that if some Linux distro does this (or, hell, even Apple), then it's innovation and cool and they are pushing bondaires and blah blah, but think once what if Vista does include a 3d desktop: people would cry that it's bloat, that this is not an useful feature and that they do that 'cause they cannothave fresh useful ideas. oh and they should concentrate fixing bugs instead:-)
It never ceases to amaze me when people generalize (OSX is elegant, Windows is not, etc). Sure, OSX has several elegant solutions, but not everything on it is elegant. There are some very impractical things about OSX (and MacOS in general, going back for ages). The same way, Windows may have some unelegant parts on it, but other solutions are really very good.
I own both a new mac and a PC and I really enjoy working in both OS. I really like the "flash and whistles" of Tiger (the way it windows animates and other things that, had MS implemented it it would be called bloat here in/., but its great just because it's Apple). But I really enjoy it. I don't like for example the fact of having the main menu in the top of the screen and not as part of the Window (yes, i know, Fitt and yadda yadda), I don't like the "dead CDs problem" that arises often when you are working wityh a cd, eject it without realising that some document from it is open and then , reinsert the CD and the system doesn't recognise it, and in general there are a lot of annoyances with MacOS. There are a lot too in Windows but both are pretty mature and great systems in general.
My problem is... I really like IE6 with all it's problems. I dislike Opera and Firefox. But now with IE7 it seems that there are no alternative to tabbed browsers. I really freaking hate tabs. I find them to be an abbomination and a real annoyance. Well, I need to wait for some IE7 warapper browser without tabs I guess...
I've seen the light. I mean STALLMAN has spoken! Let's create a Stallmanic Bible so we all, oh, believers can use and adore every minutes of our, oh, so insignificant life. Alleluya the holy trinity, Father Stallman, Son Linus and Holy Jobs (yeah, notthing to do with freeware but he **IS** a saint indeed, isn't he?)
I could never understand why it's so important for an OPEN SOURCE project to haver more.. and more.. and more.. and f**** unlimited more user base. For christ sake , it's a program not a religion (or is it?) Use it and let others use whatever they want.
I have a freeware application and I really freaking don't care who is using it.
that it is sponsered by the Pirate Party and... surprise, we have elections soon here in Sweden, so guess if this is a nice populistic move from their side.
In theory any Windows game that uses direct X can run on a Xbox without much work. There are a lot of freeware-shareware small games that are a LOT of fun to play solo or in networking mode. http://www.freewaregames.net/ is just FULL of such a games and some of them are just great despice the (lack of) price.
And the bloat keeps getting more and more out of control. Alleluyah the spaguetti!
the jelousy in Slashdot. Come on, dogs, show me your OWN video service and if it is better, then talk.
And the bad thing with that is?.... This is no suprise from a Slashdottie. What have YOU done? Show me the money...
let me guess... It's about a Linux enviroment so the article must be positive whatever bloat or unoriginality the product contains. Next!
I see Apple's lawyers flying....
Nice to see a fellow Delphi developer here.

"Registration is free. It's expected that all Linux fans will attend that great fest. All five of them."
