there is objective c++ now. one problem is that gcc doesn't support it. But I suppose that would mostly be a problem for porting macosx objective c++ apps to GNUStep.
Otherwise Amigas can do some pretty nifty stuff with Arexx, the amiga version of rexx. Basically letting you add functionality to apps, or provide bridges between them.
well, it was bush that made it a "holy war" by saying it's a "crusade". A very bad wording infact as the crusades where rasistic wars of plunder and pillage.
Actually there was thousands of dead civilians in the gulf war. At least one "precision" cruise missile even hit the wrong country (Iran). And According to the WHO(World health organization) more than 500,000 innocent Iraki children has died because of the sanctions against Irak. And 6,000 more dies each month. (yes, approximately the same number that died in the terrorist acts against US)
In Serbia just above 500 civilians where killed by the actual bombs. A lot more has died afterwards.
This new war WILL kill a lot of innocent civilians. Due to draught the last two years in Afghanistan the people is in big need of food supplies from abroad. This has already been compromised as a lot of organisations have evacuated the area already. According to WHO about 240,000 innocent people are in severe danger of starving to death in the next two weeks if nothing is done.
This war won't stop terrorism either. One of the reasons behind the terror attack was that US has been involved in wars like this before, like Irak and Sudan. So this will probably just make more terrorist acts happen.
Don't let more innocent people die. Stop terrorism, stop the war.
The development of VSTa has been slow for some years. But it's really picking up some pace. I wouldn't be that sure that it will never be more than a research OS to toy with. Sure, it will probably never in the conceivable future be an os for the average windows user.
And QNX, while a nice unix, is another unix. And by the way GNU HURD is also a modular microkernel unix.
actually there's a lot of other stuff in amigaos that makes it good. like datatypes (any application can load any fileformat basically. for example the amiga version of mosaic can view png's)
and other similarily module based things like filesystem drivers.
For those that didn't know it there's been an open-source (GPL) OS with the same differences to UNIX as plan9 for years called VSTa(http://www.vsta.org). It was started because plan9 was closed source so I'm not sure what the future of that project will be though. Either it will benefit greatly or it will just die. It has some really nice features that plan 9 doesn't have though.
you could order it from IAM a while ago but I think they've stopped selling it. BTW it was called "Deathbed Vigil" and was made by Dave Haynie(correct spelling?). I even have the T-Shirt:). It has the signatures of all the engineers and a big boing ball at the back...
> If they weren't authoritarians, they wouldn't care about changing the world.
why wouldn't they? So you mean that everyone that votes is an authoritarian because they care (to some small extent) about changing the world..
And, btw. Marx was not an authoritarian.

well, it can boot loads of more OS's. GRUB can boot all multiboot compliant OS's, for example HURD & VSTa.

objective c++ is objective c and c++ code mixed in the same source.

of course elvis has been able to edit files via ftp for ages. (and it supports http as well)
and except having more functionality elvis also only takes about a third of the memory of vim at my last check.

The comparison seems to have left out a lot of good
Opennap clients like lopster and gnapster.

and I've never bought a linux distro. I've only downloaded slackware a few times.
yes, and we would be able to compile Objective-C++ perhaps, which gnu C still doesn't support.
well, they did sell more cubes than NeXT ever sold of both cubes and NeXTstations.
still I have to say that the NeXT cube looks a lot better IMO.

true, but he probably won't be executed even if he's caught. Only very few countries are that uncivilized that they execute people.
Well, a socialist.
But that's good so vote for him then!

well, actually Lenin didn't combine Marx ideas with fascist ones. Stalin and his successors did that...

plan 9 was made long before linux so it's hardly another new OS!

>>I'm not quite sold on the idea of "everything is a file" notion with Plan 9
>Hmm.. Isn't that the way unix handles things as well?
no, not really. In unix ethernet cards aren't files, tcp/ip connections aren't files and windows aren't files.
/Erik
NO!
You buy a new ROM of course!
just because they aren't bound to a star doesn't say they move more/quicker.
yes, considering how many windows users there is that must be less than 1% that has upgraded...
