  1. Forget OS, security and all that jazz... on Blake Ross Working on Parakey Web OS · · Score: 1

... what about plain old privacy? Would anyone really want to do this with their files? For a minute let's not get into how it's stored online, and what kinds can you store.

But the simple fact that you can store all kinds of files online (and potentially access them - something similar to google docs or such??) brings int he question of privacy too. Security implies deleting, overwriting, and accessing (ofcourse), but would anyone really want to put files online which they truly hold dear? What if we have someone, or a bot, trawling through our files for information, numbers, etc?

I guess this would make big business for anti-virus/internet security products, who now not only need to protect home PCs, but also online "OS"s of sorts! I guess that's where the revenue sharing/for-profit model partially comes from.

  2. Re:Why be an employee? on CEO Nabbed for Identity Theft From Own Employees · · Score: 1

This is a brilliant idea.. I am reading Rich dad poor dad and the author talks of the exact same thing. Helps you save on anything and you can literally deduct depreciation, etc right ou of your income and pay tax on what's left alone!

  3. Never knew.. on Lego Christmas Production Shortage · · Score: 1

.. that not being able to play around could cost you so much!

  4. All said and done.. on Fastest Waves Ever Photographed · · Score: 0

.. don't you think this involves spending a huge amount of money on matters that bear not too much relevance to our daily lives? Academic progress is one thing, but actually helping improve our lives is another. I don't see the added benefit of studying such interactions and building particle accelerators which cost a bomb, or miniaturizing them, which would cost even bigger a bomb.

  5. Recording - Wouldn't that constitute as piracy? on USB Dongle Records Web, FM Radio · · Score: 1

Now don't jump on me for saying that.. I'm just contemplating on it. Considering that the radio stations pay royalty for every song they pay, wouldn't it be illegal to sell software that let's you record FM music?

  6. Sorry, not in the FreeBSd ports tree... on Windows Media Player 11 Released · · Score: 1

... or available on the Mac. - I can neither .DaMaGe [read .dmg] it nor make install it. - I don't even use windows - I can't use it - As it is, I don't care Thus M$ sucks. Hence proved.

  7. Re:Oh come on Charles... on Microsoft's Charles Simonyi to be 1st Nerd in Space · · Score: 1

Agreed my friend.. I take my stab back.

  8. Re:Publicity Stunt on Microsoft's Charles Simonyi to be 1st Nerd in Space · · Score: 1

Agreed my friend.. it's all hogwash. I mean, just a month odd back, I remember some lady who became the first space tourist woman or something, and she paid 20 million dollars for the honor! If you have so much money to spare as change for a fancy space vacation, do something good! I'm not saying don't go into space, but then also do some good with the rest wilya?

  9. Oh come on Charles... on Microsoft's Charles Simonyi to be 1st Nerd in Space · · Score: 5, Interesting

.. do you really really think that to achieve either/or of the 3 goals you need to spend a truckload (or 10) of cash to go into space? Why not use the money to advocate better education, books, and a series of talks by prominent astronauts or the like? I find this to be a colossal waste of finances and time, which could be better utilized.

  10. I had the same problem.. and Apple said.. on Dangerous Apple Power Adapters? · · Score: 2, Interesting

.. that it was my mistake it burnt out! I was using a power regulator AND a spike buster to protect my powerbook and adapter.. and the result was the exact same burn out as described in the article (it's picture perfect for me).

Apple, though the best in design, needs to do one better when it comes to their adapter! They refused to replace mine, so I am going to go back in with this article as a reference, and ask for a replacement.

No matter how good they are, they do have their host of hardware issues (if not software ones, and thank GOD for that).
