Sounds fishy to me... (phun intended). But seriously, if I got a quote of $7 for shipping, and they charged me $18, I'd just call the credit card company and refuse to pay. What this guy is saying could be a lot of bull, if he can back up his claims, then I don't see what they can do to him. My guess is that he made it up, and that's not legal, you can't go around saying such and such company ripped you off when they didn't. That's probably why people are settling.
The problem with that is just about anything you can get on CD, you can almost for sure get on cassette, and probably (might require special order) get on vinyl.. So anything in this new format will probably still be available on non copy-protected formats for a LONG while.
The problem with this is.. How do I get my music that I bought on my portable MP3 player? The one that I use to listen to because it's way smaller then any portable CD player and will never skip when I go for a run. How do I make a backup copy for me to have in my car so the one I paid for doesn't get scratched to hell?
Can we all just please realize that humans have been on the earth such a short period of time that we really have no idea how global climate is over a long period of time, so we have no real reference to figure out if humans are the cause of this "global warming"
"The best ISP in the world, college. Plug computer into wall. Auto configure lan connection with dhcp. Open any type of internet software, it works, fast, and reliable. No extra software needed."
Part of getting your ham license is so you're allowed to modify equipment. In fact, one of the popular mods was on the Yeasu FT-530, it was a 2m/440 handheld, if you popped off a couple resistors you got 800-900mhz.. Yes, you could listen to analog cell phones, and while that part was illegal, doing the mod itself was fine.
Actually.. shopping is a little iffy.. For example, you can't use autopatch (using your handheld radio to patch into a phone like via a repeater) to call a business client, but you can use it to order a pizza on your way home.
You could go here and get some. I just got G-Data for Outlook and it works great.. I like it better then the PGP Freeware thing, and it's right there in my Outlook.
I agree.. And I don't understand the concept of PGP Sigs either.. How does that prove anything? What's to prevent me from smacking a PGP Sig on my email? Does anybody verify those?

Saying "Hey, can you guys change the name" and them saying "sure" doesn't sound much like calling out the dogs to me...

Well, considering that Apple has known about XPlay since it was XPod and was first developed. And has been at a few Macworlds.. I don't think they have anything to worry about.

Apple thought it was a bad idea, that it would cause confustion, they said "Hey Mediafour, can you guys change the name?" and they said "Sure, no problem"
They just asked, and Mediafour did it, it wasn't a big deal.

From their site:
What exactly is XPlay? Is it a complete music library manager, or just an interface for moving files back and forth? Does it work with Windows Media Player?
XPlay is three things. First, XPlay includes MacDrive technology, which makes your iPod appear as a normal drive under Windows for the sharing of data files. Secondly, XPlay makes your songs, playlists, artists and albums appear in custom folders in Explorer, so they're easy to access and manipulate, and organized similarly to how the iPod organizes them. Lastly, XPlay makes your iPod appear as a portable device in Windows Media Player, so it's easy to move your existing song collection to the iPod and enjoy it on the go.
If you read the site deeper you'll see that XPlay works with Windows Media Player. It does sync all your stuff.
1. There's no encryption in the communications protocol to the iPod (as far as I know) so this wouldn't be the same as DeCSS, since that involves cracking encryping to get around copyprotection, and that's against the law
2. Apple has been planing on releasing their own iPod software from the beginning, so from there, your hardware theory is flawed

Uhh, considering that the people that make XPlay have an agreement with Apple, and have for YEARS to work on Mac compatible stuff for Windows, I wouldn't count on it. Also, at least a beta of this has been out since the iPod was released, so they must of had some information about how it works before it was released to get the software out there that fast.
In fact, from their site, other then asking them to change the name from XPod, they don't seem to care, and they've known about it for a while:

dnet cracks keys by brute force.. Here's 10 keys, try them, oh? they don't work, here, have 10 more? They don't work either? Damn, have some more.
It does that with a ton of people until it finds the right key. It will eventually crack every crypto they throw at it, because it's only a matter of time.
Seti@home is searching for something that they don't even know if it's out there, and can you imagine the impact if they do find PROOF that there's life somewhere else? That's far more important then stupid crypto keys and such
the UD cancer treatment, while iffy because it's probably set up to benifit a company still has a HUGE impact on EVERYONE'S life.. I don't know anybody that either hasn't had cancer or a family member that has had cancer, and to find a cure!
I hope they bring back police quest, god I loved that game.. And does anybody remember The Black Cauldron sierra game.. what great games! To bad they turned to shit when they started doing it via mouse control. That was the best part, spending hours just working on the right phrase, and typing fast enough to do stuff before you would die.
"This is total bullshit. I just got one of these in the mail today, and if GoDaddy (my registrar) hadn't warned me about it a few days ago, I may have filled it out and sent Verisign $30."
Then you're a moron.. Why would you fill out a flimsy postcard with your CC#? Why would you renew a domain with somebody that doesn't even mention your current register? Why would you even REMOTELY thing that this is from GoDaddy and not VeriSign. There's no reference to GoDaddy, but there's a big VeriSign logo on it. If you need GoDaddy to send you an email warning you about this, then there's this bridge I'll sell ya..
As much as I hate verisign, mostly because it took 3 phone calls and 4 tries to get my domain switched to TheNIC.com.. I've seen register.com and other people do the same thing with mailing and emails. Plus, I would think that big verisign logo might be a tip off, as well as the confirmations you need to switch registers.
Probably more then you ever will...
Couldn't you host as many as you want if you can host a server via name based virtual hosting?
Sounds like AT&T Broadband
