Okay, here's how it works. You receive a letter from the ABS which has a unique code to enable you to log on. The code is tied to either your address (I think this is the case) or your name. Probably not number two. If there is no logon from the code you have, you haven't completed the census, and someone will come knocking on your door, I guess.
Begs the question of how can they know your letter wasn't stolen from your mailbox, or lost, or eaten by your dog, but this *is* the government, so it's not surprising.
That's odd. I use VISA PayWave all the time, and have never been charged for it. It is a credit card, not debit, I wonder if that makes a difference? NAB if that makes a difference, I can't speak for any other bank.
Also "The Gap Series" by Donaldson. Oh, and the "Mirror" series, what was it, "The Mirror of Her Dreams" and "A Man Rides Through". The problem with Donaldson as far as I'm concerned, is that he either is, or writes like a complete misogynist. The female characters in all of his books are either weak, get raped, or both.
Searched for "Donaldson", found him, happy. He really did a good job with that series, if you can get over his innate misogynism. Also, Iain M Banks does a fantastic job with his "Culture" series.
Same here. I don't understand why B&N can't sell here whilst Amazon has no problem. Doesn't really affect me too much though, I'm a long time Amazon buyer.
I'm not happy about this, I must admit. However, I do own 4 devices (2 Android, 2 iOS) that are attached to Amazon account. I search for stuff I want through my browser, buy it with 1Click, and it is available immediately on ALL devices. Amazon are great - Apple, well, they won't be getting their 30% from me due to my shopping habits.
Well, I would have agreed with you a couple of weeks ago. I have two ebook readers (I read a lot, obviously), and thought they were great - with some limitations. The e-ink is good, as long as you have good external lighting. Then I recently bought a Nook Color with the idea of using it as an Android pad, not really as an ebook reader. I rooted it (very easy), got a really useful Android tablet, and guess what? I use that for reading exclusively now - I find the screen to be much better than I thought it would be. Anybody want to buy two used ebook readers?
I'm in Aus, and no, they don't sell them here, I checked. Also, you can't buy one direct from America without resorting to tricks (HopShopGo or some such). So, I bought mine, brand new, in box etc from eBay. I expect it to arrive today, and by tomorrow it will be rooted. I paid $220 + $30 shipping. I have read on some forum or other that devs have actually got Honeycomb running on it, but I think I'll wait a bit to go that far.
Well, that is strange. I have a free developer account, admittedly from a couple of years ago, but still current - and I had no problems downloading. I don't doubt that your experience is different - it would be interesting to know why.
Speaking of C64, I remember some software that I bought that absolutely REQUIRED the manual. The software wasn't DRMed. but the manual was red paper printed with black ink. Impossible to photocopy, at least back then. Very effective, and fair I thought.
Books, yes, I believe so. I only found this out beacuse I was shopping around on Amazon the other day, looking for books from a particular author. I live in Australia, and have downloaded heaps of books from Amazon, no troubles. Then I came across a book I wanted to read, went to buy it, and Amazon kindly informed me that this book was not for sale in my region! Sucks if you ask me.
There is SOME light at the end of the tunnel, though. If Labor manage to get re-elected, the Greens will hold the balance of power in the senate, and they are dead against the internet filter, and will stop it, I believe. I am not advocating a vote to Labor, I think both major parties suck - but at different policies. You are absolutely correct in that everybody will be disappointed after this election.
Same here. The PRS 600 is the best tech investment I have made in years. I have condensed 2 whole bookshelves (about 400 books) into a device that I can carry anywhere. And the battery life is *incredible*. And, no, I don't work for Sony, but credit where it's due.
Hmm. My previous laptop was a DELL XPS 1330. It was an OK computer and I had it for a year. The graphics system carked itself just after the warranty expired (known fault in this model), but DELL sent a guy out to replace the logic board, which was pretty good of them, I thought. Anyway, the point: I watched the guy pull apart the XPS. I have never seen such crappy assembly and quality in my whole life. Everything was plastic, everything. Thebase that held the logic board was so thin that I could easily bend it with one hand. I then sold it on ebay for about 30% of what I paid a year ago, and bought a MBP 15" just to see what all the fuss was about. Now, I've been a PC guy all my life, but I work as a developer on windows systems, so I thought it was time for a change. Boy, have I had my eyes opened. Without a doubt, this is the best engineered gadget I have ever seen. It does everything I want to do, with absolutely no fuss, no bother. Now, I know, my anecdote means little, but as I say, my eyes have been opened and I am firmly an Apple fan, not only for the excellent hardware, but the unbelievably good OSX (a real eye opener). Of course, YMMV, I am not trying to convince anyone, I really don't care what anyone else does. But I know I will be buying Apple from now on. Flame away!
Hit the nail right on the head. At the risk of being modded down, I will say that that is the exact reason I switched from Windows to OSX (with a brief and unsatisfying foray into linux). All the menus, for all of the programs, are in the same place and very little effort is required to "learn" a new application. YMMV.
Quick question. What the hell were you doing in order to have your watch stop a rifle round? I'm honestly curious - I've never even seen a rifle, let alone be shot at.

There were 333 comments when I came into this discussion. I know, "Cool story, bro".

It's funny, everyone here keeps referring to "Airplane!". In Aus it was called "Flying High!", a much better name, I think.

Please don't confuse us with our politicians - I have no idea where they come from, but it's certainly not the real world!

"I'm not the martyr type, really. If I felt that strongly, I'd take other routes - which we won't discuss while I'm logged in and traceable LOL"
The first rule of fight club is.....
Apple is too expensive for you? WELL DON'T BUY ONE. Simple, problem solved. Sheesh.
I don't know, but I have to say that the icon for this story probably represents the look our ancestors had whilst receiving some neanderthal loving.

Your debating skills are only exceeded by your rudeness. You, sir, are a moron. Grow up.

Bluetooth mouse.
"Well, Microsoft can't just ignore the risk" Perhaps "risc" instead? Talk about laugh, I nearly did.
