Honestly, I can't see myself NOT using Google in the years ahead. It's become too ingrained in my lifestyle. If I don't know what something means, I google it. In fact, in the rare times that Google is down, I find myself lost and constantly clicking "home" (www.google.com) only to find it doesn't work.
Seriously. I bought a Creative Micro June '05. They asked if I wanted the replacement plan and I was like "Why the hell not?" so I spent the 25 bucks on the replacement plan.
Two weeks later, I drop the Micro and the HDD shatters. I take it to Best Buy, say that it doesn't turn on, they told me to go pick out a new one. This was 2 weeks after the 1-gen Nano came out so I got the 4-GB Nano. I use it for a while, but the thing gets scratched to all hell within a month.
Solution? Drain the battery and say it doesn't work again. Get a new iPod (and splurge for a case).
Then, battery life starts to go downhill around March of this year. Again, drain the battery until it doesn't turn on. Get a new iPod. However, I had to pay the $12 to keep the Product Replacement Plan.
Then, the new Nanos came out. I was getting sick of the scratching issues with these, so I took it to Best Buy and said that the memory was corrupted. Naturally the blonde at the service counter had no clue what I was talking about so she said to go pick out a new one. Now, since my iPod was $250 at the start, I technically had $250 credit. So I got the 8 GB Nano. Spent the $12 to keep the Product Replacement Plan.
So, I've had a total of 5 MP3 players for the grand total of $299.
I would say that a monopoly on the search engine market is different than a monopoly on the OS/browser market. It's not like people don't have a choice to type in www.google.com or www.yahoo.com.
I can only imagine archeologist's reactions when our society is kaput.
"The Americans had slaves that carried concrete slabs to form long unending structures. We also have evidence that these were called "free-ways". We think these "free-ways" were in worship to some sort of God and the metal heaps on these "free-ways" offerings for this God."
I only RPOTFA (read part of... well you know) but it seems like those were the ones actually watched. It calls them unique views.
My question is - are they the ones just initialized or viewed completely? I know a lot of the videos on myspace are dumb home videos by 12 year olds (as are most on YouTube, but the overall quality on YouTube is better) so does a viewing count as only clicking on the video of the kid eating the worm, or is it after the video completes and you see him puke it up?
I told them, "it doesn't matter, one is as secure as the other".
You're kidding, right? IE = Firefox?
Not-Microsoft doesn't make software secure.
No, non-one patch day a month makes it secure.
Only competent programmers and a ruthless ability to say 'no' to new features will even begin to make Firefox secure.
I've never had Firefox crap out on me like IE.
There's nothing that indicates the pool of programmers who contribute to firefox is any better than any other group of programmers.
No, but there are more average ones, meaning that there are more ways at looking at a problem and more ways of fixing it.
In fact I'd imagine it's *below* average. Firefox is a bloated, insecure browser.
Do you even USE Firefox?
Sure, you have "faster patch turnaround", which is basically worthless. It's like your doctor telling you that you have cancer, "but hey, only one round of chemo!".This argument is valid if the chemo will automagically fix it. Microsoft has released patches that create MORE holes! Faster patch turnaround is a VERY big deal.
As long as we have the mentality that "no software is secure",
Paranoid much?
and you don't know what else is lurking in that source code.
Uh... yeah, we do... that's why it's called Open source
Google seems to be overextending itself recently. Honestly, I'm all for Google, but it seems that Google has too many projects going on and, sadly to say it, it seems like this will be a flop for Froogle.
"It's rare these days to find a public site that depends only on IE. Most banking sites, which were really the only holdovers, have realized that Firefox support is necessary."
Ever try to use Microsoft/Windows Update in Firefox?
For that matter, ever try to do ANYTHING on Microsoft's webpage on Firefox?
Sooner or later, you're going to get a page saying "This page can only be displayed using MS Internet Explorer 5.0 or above."...or something like that.
This is /.!!!
We don't read TFA much less the fine print!
Simply doing a Google search would have revealed someone already had it.
Actually there's this saying we have in Texas. Fool me once... shame on you. Fool me twice... and you can't get fooled again.
Did we really /. Google AND NASA?!?!
No, not a marketing droid. I look up basically everything I do on Google.
It means that if you wanted to know the score of the a certain sporting event.
We'll go with Steelers vs. Bengals for now.
You could type in score Steelers and Bengals and it would return something like...
20 - 17 Steelers
11:23 3rd Quarter
Bengals Ball on Steelers 47

Hey, it's not my fault they aren't smart enough to test it. Besides, I'm stimulating the secondary market.

Not bad, huh?
...I didn't read the article, but... WHY exactly is VOIP so bad that the government needs to ban it??

It's just that Google is that much better.

I'm sure the 3 people will move on with their lives.

Judging by MySpace's average user profile, I didn't even know most of them could program HTML to include videos.
yes, I know of MySpace's video feature. I'm just trying to be 'funny'.
I still consider YouTube's feature to be better due to their (comparative) lack of advertising.
After he flatlines,
:moment of silence:
"CLEAR!"
"Sir we lost him"
"Baked potato anyone?"
Good news Mr. Brown, we removed the tumor! Followed by, "We're going to have to put you under again because your liver floated away."
Actually I'm going with, "The three AOL users that have the mental capacity to figure AOL's mistake = their profit"
Is that next to the flux capacitor?
I didn't know anyone on /. was pro-Microsoft.

I didn't RTFA but does the FireFox count include any of the extensions?
Not that I'm bashing FireFox at all, I love it, but I wonder how many exploitations lie within the extensions?
