  1. I'm in the same exact situation - On the IT side on Who Owns Deployments - Dev or IT? · · Score: 1

It should be IT deploying to production period (I'm the Sr. System Admin and deploy all apps to production). Yes we know our own systems and we know the application to an extent. If done right "code monkeys" have done their job and the application passed QA'ed and testing, the application then belongs to IT. In my experience the vast majority of DEV's don't understand System Administration (there are exceptions to the rule of course) and no it's not about us loosing control but boils down to accountability. Just yesterday I had to fix and (try) explain to a dev why they could not deploy the code to a QA box because they kept on getting a CRC error in thier package. Now would you trust a production deployment to that person? What would happen when you have to account for service levels for a customer and the dev's kept scratching their heads trying to figure out what went wrong and then call a system admin into the frey.

I mostly deal with my network and servers and some luser (local user) stuff, while he gets the majority of face time with said lusers (my people skills are lacking, on purpose). The problem I have is the we are both on call 24x7, and well everyone at the company has been bugging us relentlessly for trivial stuff.

Here is an example; I was called by one of the executive admins last night at 11PM asking how to remove stationary from her outlook so she can send personal emails. If your company goes through this, it is what you can expect. Major League Gaming is a competitive console gaming league. There are a huge number of other leagues and tournaments for PC games. As such, MLG does not stand to gain much by holding tournaments for PC games. With exception to fighting games, which are historically considered arcade games, competitive console gaming is relatively new, and MLG is a pioneer in that part of the industry. Competitive console gaming is also open to everybody, as it has a lower barrier to entry as compared to competitive PC gaming, in which those who have the funds necessary to purchase the latest hardware can have a rather significant hardware-based advantage over others.

Why not model the game play to be broadcast like the most successful sports programs on tv today? e.g. real football or soccer game. You have a coach/s giving direction and the over all strategy to the game being played (RTS), and the team members executing the strategy given by coach by it's players working as team (FPS). Then to be able to watch, comment, critique and enjoy watching the teams strategy and game play as they face off, again just like a real sports broadcast. Only then do I see something of this caliber take off to become successful, and not watching 15 sec clips of a players game then 20 mins of background side stories about the players

Back in the day this was one of the Major selling points for AOL, but today this type of thought is less prevalent because everyone and their mother now provides some sort of branded content/media. And talking to a couple of AOL users lately their mind STILL is set that AOL is providing content that they feel is worth it.

Will we see AOL disappear in the near future? No

Will we see AOL disappear in the far future? Yes IF: AOL does not change, just like any company to keep up or stay in business they will have change / innovate new products ideas and services, if the company or any company for that matter fails to do so they will die. IBM is great example of how to change and not die.

Sorry if this bit is a little off topic but it's funny about my last statement about change. The DMCA along with software patents discourages/prevents innovation and change, and according to my hypothesis every company that supports the two are shooting themselves in the foot.
