As much as I love Microsoft.Net and the tools. We all know never to use the latest/greatest from Microsoft. I'm using VS.2013 until the first service pack or two are released.
It's kind of interesting to read these sorts of news articles. You would have thought they would have replaced these relics long ago. I wonder if the PDP-11's used Macro-11 like the VAX-11s. I remember learning to program on a VAX/11-750 in high school. My first real exposure to "real" computers. Up until then I only used TRS-80's.
Thanks for the flashback and making me feel old!
Just a quick correction here, the molecule did not survive 18 seconds. Here's the text from the article:
"This ultracold experiment is also ultra-fast - the longest lived Rydberg molecule survives for just 18 microseconds. "
I've already begged forgiveness for this once before. The body of text used the word correctly and the subject line did not. Please forgive me, and if the hague should come calling I will plead guilt.
Absolutely not. Now play this mind game with me, what if the two people are talking with each other in a sound proof room that is unlocked and you open the door to listen. Are you now hacking?
Point well taken, actually I tend to type quickly and go back and proof read prior to posting. Unfortunately, I forgot to change the title but did correct the body of the text. I also hate these mistakes.
Did these journalist not understand what their role was at this event? The Wi-Fi connections were free targets and that was understood. The hard-wired connections were off limits to all involved and only for the press, as I understand it. What were they thinking?
Well, I've been waiting for it and haven't seen it yet. So I'm just gonna get it out of the way and be done with it....
I for one welcome our Underseas Robotic Overlords.
Now, back to our topic!
By the way, thanks to the fellow/gal who posted the link to the picture!
Kind of late to the party on this topic so I'm speaking as much to myself as anyone else, but since I didn't see it addressed after scrolling through the discussion, let me raise the question that perhaps it didn't surprise us.
If we did detect it would we have shot preemptively at a sub? Probably not given the few countries that do have subs might make our lives miserable. Plus, if we act all surprised and publish how surprised we were, maybe the chinese will buy it and think that we didn't. I'm not buying it though, I'll bet we have technology down below that nobody is telling me about.
I'm not a conspiracy nut theorist, but good counter-intelligence could also be a possibility. To me it's better to act surprised and not be then to shout out, "Hey, we see you!"
As an amateur astronomer I always support these efforts, not so much because they truly add a lot of value as the potential PR they generate. I live in an extremely urban area and can only see planets and the very brightest stars.
And the problem is that we tend to generate a lot of light pollution that is a waste. We don't just illuminate the areas that needs it, but throw off a lot of light pollution because our lights are not focused on the needed area. It's like the standard light in your house, you turn it on and it throws light everywhere even though you just needed it to read a book, it's a waste. I'm not a green fanatic, but it just makes economic sense to try and reduce and eliminate waste where it exists.... plus I really miss seeing the Milky Way.
I find it hard to fathom that a casino would install a slot machine without even testing it. You would think the first thing they would do is verify that the machine accepts money and giving it a whirl. I'm sure they have some way of doing this in a test mode to verify it's functioning.
I'm not condoning the people who took advantage of the situation, they should return the money. But sheesh, who does the casino have to blame but for themselves?
Just one more good reason to build your own system. It's not that difficult and you'll get your system a lot faster than Alienware can deliver. I tried to buy an Alienware early this summer after having a real bad experience with ordering a Dell XPS 700.... and they promised shipping in two weeks and then they change the time to two months. Yuck, and the worst thing about Alienware is they charge you upfront and just sit on the cash.
I'll never buy again!
I can't believe the government is just going to let these frequencies be opened up to the public in an unlicensed fashion. That's a lot of taxes, er... licenses that could be used to generate revenue. Government just hates saying no to a tax, when they can say it's not a tax.
Looks like someone's been back dating options again. At least in this case the management teams is being held accountable. They're not just saying "oops", like Apple and the like. Corporate America needs more directors who hold management accountable for behavior like this.
Wish my computer had 640 GB! But I think Bill said it was 640KB.
Oddly enough, I just read an article on Ars that mentions MongoDB specifically. http://arstechnica.com/informa...

Any other day this would be so cool for science geeks. But today we're all just waiting for the photos of Pluto to come streaming back to us.
If you really want the details, watch the documentary Capricorn One. You can find details on imdb.com.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and state that there's a pretty good chance that 100% of us will die at some point or other.

The Bush Administration is pushing for bigger government, great ... just great. He's a Republican too? I'm so confused.
Come on, which one of you took it?
Oh great .... now I'm gonna have to wait for this stuff to sell-off before I can get my bandolier of carrots?! It will be the worst woot-off ever!

The Flying Spaghetti Monster is not going to be happy to hear about this!
Did you see the series finale of the Sopranos? Yeah, kind of like that.
Do you think everytime someone pushes one of those EASY buttons from staples a datacenter somewhere loses power? Just curious....
