  1. Re:You cant teach tact. on Class Teaches Nerds Social Skills · · Score: 2, Insightful

Wrong! You can definitely teach tact. Your points 1-4 can all be improved. Point 5 is more difficult: if you're willing to give up your "nerdy" hobbies, sure, more chicks might like you, but I'd say that's way too much of a sacrifice. However, if you work on points 1-4, you'll definitely do better in the dating world!

Also, not all "hot chicks" are as superficial as you're implying :)

  2. Workplace sexual harrassment course? on Class Teaches Nerds Social Skills · · Score: 1

So in order to "ease entry into the world of work", they'll "learn how to write flirtatious text messages and emails"? Hm. Reeks of a sexual harrassment course to me :) Seriously though: I love this idea. I don't oppose the idea that you can be perfectly happy in your own antisocial world, but still you can't deny the fact that you need some amount of social skills for your career, especially now that the job market is tightening up. A recruiter that has to choose between two guys with pretty much the same amount of computer skills, will definitely choose the one that acts friendlier and looks less scruffy.

  3. Re:I think my girlfriend's Civ 4 experience... on Non-Violent, Cooperative Games? · · Score: 1

After playing Civ4 for a while, I actually went back to doing things in a peaceful way for once: turn on the "Always peace" option, but then set the victory conditions so you can only win if you own all cities. And then try to woo your opponents' cities into joining your empire by focussing on culture. Not too easy, definitely cool.

Or, better yet: Quicksilver. It's basically a better version of Spotlight, with the additional power of performing actions, like moving files, displaying contacts' phone numbers in large type, controlling your iTunes, a calculator function, and much more (and there are tons of plugins to do even more). Your whole machine is just a ctrl+space away! (Seriously. I know I sound like a %*^&#$ commercial, but it's really that good. Once you get to know it, you'll be addicted. Trust me.)

  7. About web search on Internet Only 1% Porn · · Score: 3, Interesting

This might also have something to do with the fact that sex-related topics also aren't the top in web search anymore, now only numbering 3,8% as opposed to 17% (!) in the mid-nineties.

A guy who went to Best Buy and wanted to order a Zune, actually took it home right away and posted his pictures online. He did get an unexplained system error though.

If you want a robot that's relatively cheap (~$500) and easy to build, check out TeRK (Telepresence Robot Kit). It's got easy step-by-step instructions and even pictures of all the tools you need, in case you don't know what a 3/32" Allen Wrench looks like. Pretty cool stuff.
