Actually your right its not proprietary its been open... but has been for less than a year under ISO 32000... had to look it up since I avoid PDF... what you are talking about is PDF/A which is a watered down version...
1) Send me screenshots inside a word document ????????
Why would you object to that? The end user took time to provide you with information that will help you resolve the issue. A screenshot in a word document is way better than a phone conversation where they state "I got some kind of an error but I dont remember what it is."
If you are annoyed that you have to open a word document to resolve an issue for a user that tried to help you do your job then the problem lies with you.
Also on the flip side I learned that providing end users with screenshots in a word document with simple detailed instructions will eventually make them learn the process on thier own instead of calling you back. And as a result your work load will decrease significantly since you can send that document to all the users involved with the process.
2) Ask what FTP is when they're supposed to be a server admin
3) Can't run a select statement but are supposed to be the DBA.
Points 2 and 3 are sad but true. The frequency I see these points validated isnt sad, its horrific as well as shocking.
4) insist the network is up even though we don't see any packets through an *inline* appliance
If they say the network is up (when its actually down) tell the end user to continue working hard and being an invaluble employee to the company, if you dont hear from them in 15 min id reevaluate what your doing.
5) say the problem is super urgent, but then refuse to try anything you say.
Welcome to the corporate world where you must spoon feed those that are the reason you get a pay check.... I will be rich when I invent a device to stab someone in the face over the internet.
We all read bash.org buddy, stop stealing other ppls crap and find something else to do when your not maintaing your little sisters network.
I have to disagree with you. The thing with tech support is that you are telling the end user how to do something diffrently then they have been doing. Sometimes that is somehing they have been doing a certain way for a number of years.
When someone calls an electrician 90% of the time that person hasnt even changed a fuse or a breaker in thier lifetime, but in tech support your telling someone how to do something with a computer that they have used for a really long time. Hence they believe they have expert knowledge of the system they are using.
They get away with it for a period of time until something happens that hinders thier way of operating thier system to the way they are used to. And telling them they have been doing something wrong the whole time and they need to change thier habit not only brings suprise but also resent.
Without being specific younger generation accountants and financual systems come to mind. They do something a certain way in a system for awhile that essentially will break the process of something that needs to be done quarterly or yearly.
They have to use latin names because latin is a dead language. Remember languages are dynamic and words do change meaning over a certain amount of time. When you have a dead language like latin it is not used in speech hence words do not change meaning. words like "Charmed" and "Strange" may have a diffrent meaning a century or two from now.
but the chinese government is actually doing a lot of good things for the environment.
Although China has put some policies into place (with a quick google) it is a very very seriously polluted country.
Industrialization doesent come free.
What you forget to mention is that saving people in Darfur, Political expression in Tibet, and the economic recovery in the US all are going to have to rely on technology (in one way or another) to solve the problems that are present.
A hinderence to technology can be linked to the hinderence of these causes.
"You can fix anything by throwing money at it." And thats a direct quote. Its that kind of mentality that has put us in the economic situation we are in. Chicago has it worst of all with a sales tax that is creeping tword 11%, Property taxes that have gone upwards of 50%, and a stale real estate market..
and bought a HD-DVD player. In the early going it did seem like HD-DVD would be on top, especially judging by Sonys track record in format wars ie. Betamax and Mini Disc./.ers seem to forget that the early concensus here also supported HD-DVD, on price alone if not anything else.. I bought mine for $179.99 while a standalone Blue Ray was still just below $1000 (not counting the PS3). A 180 dollars lost isnt bad compared to my cousin who spent 1200 on the LG dual format player about 6 months ago.
Class Acion law suit? Would love to hop on that bandwagon if I could. Comcast used to be good but its stopped caring about its customers here in the Chicago area. The only alternative is DSL and we all know what thats like...
Maybe its the fact that the high cost of business in this wonderful city I live in has driven out EA just like hundreds of other businesses. Property tax here has increased about 100% in the last few years as well as ridiculous other taxes that have been inflated by Emperor Daley and the Cook County Board Stroger Dynasty... having the highest sales tax in the nation apparently isnt enough, Daley wants to propose a tax on anything he can imagine... recently he even proposed an additional tax on BOTTLED WATER. I love this city but the Democrats here are destroying it...
There is an awesome program called Tversity. It lets you stream media to your X box of your PC or Laptop. It also lets you stream formats other than WMV. I use my laptop with it and stream video to my 360 through Wifi. I absolutly love it, cant believe it hasent been mentioned before.
Id put an addition to my house for a datacenter... Thats alot of bandwidth she has that is going to waste hooked up to 1 PC runnning windows... Why not do some hosting on a few hundred servers (all saying she has adaequete electricity and cooling installed)...
Dont Forget there was a conspiracy to also kill the VP and the speaker of the house to put the next one in the big seat, who had sympathy for the Southern cause. (Sorry guys forgot the names, dnt have time to look them up)
will they be less delicious? :(
I guess ill have to be careful when I pick them off my bush...

Check out ATIs HD 3870. I picked one up for about half the price of the 8800 while its benchmarks are within kissing distance.
I can't image a situation where someone else would have some legitimate business reason for knowing my password.
Its cause it was on a yellow post-it note attached to your monitor.

This is great! Jobs has been reduced to being a Help Desk technician... Im lovin it!
The whole point for a Class Action lawsuit here would be to make it financially impractical for them to continue blocking legitamate traffic....
