Woolworths Australia has been using fingerprint scanners for signing in and out of work for at least seven years. I used to work in one of their stores in 1997.
The fingerprint was only used for verification, not identification (you had to enter your employee-id first). The system was easily cheated though: it was possible to use ANY finger to idenitfy yourself, not just the one that was initially scanned, you only had to press it hard enough onto the scanner.
Last time I checked, they were still using the same system.

By taxing the fuel it self you have an accurate means of charging for a vehicel's use on the road.
Not true, at least not in Europe. The reason for introducing the the toll system in Germany is that gasoline is a lot cheaper in bordering countries like Austria, the Czech Republic or Poland. The trucks have sufficent range to make it from their homebase all the way across Europe (and thus through Germany) without ever stopping for fuel. They never pay for the usage of the roads.
This technology was used in 1998 in Berlin. Short films and commercials were shown on the tunnel walls. They used sensors to measure the speed of the subway and installed computer controlled projectors to make sure the clips ran at an even speed, independent of the speed of the train. My bank only sends PGP-encrypted and signed messages. Very cool indeed.

Get something like a Junghans Mega Solar Ceramic. Runs on solar power, syncs every night with the WWVB transmitter in Fort Collins.

It did work for me, got me right here in Sydney. I also tried a couple of other IPs. There it got at least the countries right (Sweden and Thailand)
