  1. I've tried to go back to Firefox from chrome several times. For me it seems to consume a lot of cpu resources comparatively. On my PC (Ubuntu) the cpu fan runs at full whine. On my MacBook (OSX), the battery life is terrible with Firefox open, even when it is doing nothing. I saw no compelling features that make me want to put up with that.

  2. But government purchasing officers have a mandate to evaluate multiple suppliers and get the best deal for the government.

I can't tell if you're unfamiliar with our government or extremely naive, but our Federal government has spent literally billions of dollars trying to sort out its payroll software, and various governments of various political parties have not managed to figure something out yet in three decades of trying.

This latest attempt by the previous Conservative government, they spent $2 billion on IBM software that IBM said wouldn't work when they began. Now the whole thing is being thrown in the trash and they are starting over.
Phoenix, a timeline: How the federal government has spent nearly three decades struggling to deliver a new pay system for its 300,000 employees.

  3. You could pair any Bluetooth keyboard with your phone if you have a lot of typing to do. There's some decent compact keyboards that will do the job available on eBay. Any of those RF/USB dongle ones should work with an OTG cable too unless you have an iPhone (last I checked OTG was not available).

For now I would say Apple should focus on making a phone that works at all in the cold. My work phone is an iPhone, and my personal phone has always been some flavour of Android. I work outside quite often at -40 degrees and the iPhone will not work unless it's kept warm somehow, but for some reason none of the Android phones I have owned have ever had a problem.

I used Firefox for years before switching to Chrome. Recently I decided to give it another try. On my MacBook the battery longevity goes to somewhere about half of what it is without Firefox open, and it becomes uncomfortably hot. On Android I get warnings about Firefox draining my battery and finding myself locating a charger several times a day. I'm not sure what is going on there, but I'm highly disappointed. Everything else about the browser is great, but it's a showstopper.

A carbon tax could be an economic stimulus if it's paired with a tax cut to make it revenue neutral. Then came the Orange menace. Now North Korea is in, and only certain U.S. states will honour that agreement.

I've been using Plex for quite a while. I use sonarr to grab shows, and radarr for movies (radarr is a fork of sonarr). They scrape torrent and nzb sites for available stuff that I want and feed it them to Transmission or SabNZBd for Plex to import. A nice interface with recently downloaded shows and movies. You can pause what you are watching on TV and unpause on your phone or another TV. It's wonderful.

When they came out with the DVR feature, I grabbed a Hauppague WinTV card and an Antenna to try it out. It didn't work as well as I expected, but it was beta. The LiveTV would be nice for local news etc, but it was very frustrating when a weak signal would result in an error dialog, and you would have to navigate the interface back to the show you are watching. DVR would record 10 to 20 minutes of a show then quit in my experience. Only certain Plex clients are able to view the LiveTV or DVR programs. The Android app can, but not the Kodi plugin.

I hope they get it sorted out so it's a useable experience.
