No, you don't. I just downloaded it and tried out a sample chapter. I had previously used eReader from Fictionwise, but they were unable to get "The Amber Spyglass," even though they had the first two books of Pullman's Dark Materials series.
Amazon had the content, so I went and bought Amber Spyglass.
You're not kidding about the out-of-place tabs in the title bar. They repurposed the "Window sizer lines" for each tab - they move the tab rather than resize it.
It is going to take a fare bit of getting used to the new design. It's off putting enough that I'm going to return to FF I think. I'm on OSX and I still think Safari looks really weird.
I have the Asus 1000 (solid state drive) and use Easy Peasy (I think www.geteasypeasy.com). It works well with suspend/lid closing/wifi. I don't know if this is typical, but it even worked correctly with my Verizon Wireless EVDO aircard, so I'm happy.
I was in Utah a year ago and got a beer at Applebee's in a suburb of Salt Lake City. I was carded (per Applebee's policy) but I was never asked about joining a club or anything. What's all this about joining a club to drink?
I have the same 1024x600 screen on my EeePC, and Evolution's preference window is too big for the screen. My solution? Switched to Thunderbird. I'm also using Easy Peasy instead of the default Asus Xandros distro.
GIMP doesn't have the features. When it does, people will stop complaining about it. Also, the layer palette sucked, still sucks, and will probably continue to suck.
Pidgin? Libpurple is tremendous. If you want to see what Pidgin should look like, check out its sibling Adium, the best IM client on OS X (which uses libpurple).
I've been using Easy Peasy (http://geteasypeasy.com I think) on my Asus EeePC 1000 netbook. It is a solid distro based on Ubuntu 8.04. They plan on releasing 2.0 after Ubuntu 9 comes out in April. How does this Ubuntu Mobile compare? Is it friendly towards flash drives and computers with WiFi-only Internet access?
Do not buy Apple's warranty. Get it from somewhere else if possible. I have had nothing but problems, even with the extended AppleCare warranty. It isn't like Dell's next-business-day-everything-but-theft-and-fire. If you spill soda on your MBP, you're fucked. If you spill it on a Latitude, you're covered. I love my MBP to death, but by heaven Apple's warranties are the worse (and this is with business computers, not home machines).
I am using a late 2007 MBP (15", 2.4Ghz, 4GB RAM). The nVidia 8600 has been doing great. I haven't played Crysis (didn't like Farcry), but it plays Left 4 Dead and Fallout 3 just fine. So if the new MBP's are even better, I think they'd be just fine for most gaming.
The poorest thing is that if you *do* get the AppleCare warranty, it doesn't bring the same level of protection as Dell's. Dell covers us, at $300 a laptop, for 4 years, next-business-day repair. Everything is covered except *theft* and *fire*. Apple doesn't even cover accidental spills, and opening the memory hatch voids your warranty. I'm still arguing with them while waiting 2 weeks to get a MacBook Pro (Santa Rosa) fixed.
One thing about fuel - always fill up different tanks from different vendors and on different days. One of my customers had a site go down because both the permanent and the roll-up generator were filled from the same tanker truck that had bum fuel in it.
Some apps, mostly Adobe, seem like they do it on OS X too. Every time I open/save a new file, Photoshop waits for my two external firewire drives to spin up. Ugh.
Amen. It has such potential, but the characters all seem very cartoony, and the amount of sex is over top. Even the lesbian episode didn't make it right:(
"Playing videos you have, for some reason, in H.264 format"
What on earth is your problem with H.264? It looks better than DivX, and no one said you had to encode 320x240 like the iPod does. Don't be an ass. Every DVD I rip (on Windows or OS X) gets encoded as H.264 in an MP4 container.
What the hell does SIGGRAPH have to do with graphics design? This HD Photo is a fucking JPEG "killer," not a 3D engine or some new pipeline technology. We're talking about Microsoft and their all-around-horrible graphic/photo tools. Attempting to lure people away from programs like Photoshop/Paintshop/Elements/Gimp/Aperture with stupid shit like Photo Editor.
Yes, especially if you could backup them up on a computer.

You might want to check Growl if you're using it. Might have a problem with Growl's Mail.app plugin and Safari 4.

You can disable everything you just talked about.

I play Fallout 3 with Steam as a regular user, and have no problems on WinXP.

Inkscape kicks ass, though.

This. Can you sign in to Yahoo! with an OpenID? Nope, but they'll happily provide you with a YahoO! OpenID to use elsewhere.

Or they may, in fact, have been both.

I was tired of the low-res director guy
If I had the mod points, you'd get them.
Get a new computer then.
