Re:payment information?
Over the years I've bought a few items from a mail-order vendor that uses Yahoo! for their checkout/payment. Nothing since the breach in question, though... their deals haven't been that good recently.
Yahoo! also offers "premium" mail service, no ads, IMAP access may be a premium-only feature.

Re:If it works, why worry.
you apparently don't shop online much because http://3btech.net/deop745smfof3.html is still new xp hardware, albeit a $89 pc.

Re:Which $400 gaming PC?
"Which $400 gaming PC that can play games with comparable graphics to forthcoming PS4 games would you recommend?"
One built yourself.
A10-5800K with 8GB RAM costs me.... $247.90 free shipping and before taxes.
If I decided to drop the extra $150 on a better GPU than the 7660D included in the A10, then you could get a GTX560 and be set to go. Or snag dual GTX460s for the same price.

Re:um...
It's a shame Brother cooperated, they were initially hold-outs, but now I go out of my way to avoid them.
However, we've still got Samsung, and they're generally the best & cheapest options across the board, anyhow.
Everyone go out and by a CLP-325W now... (Only that specific model, otherwise you don't get PCL-5 support). It's only $150USD shipped, and the early bugs in the firmware have been worked-out.

New, custom-built, $200 PC
Who needs to build it yourself? Last time I needed a new system, sites that allow you to custom configure a new PC were cheaper than buying the parts separately.
3BTech has a new, low-end PC starting at $170 (shipped): http://3btech.net/3btecocospam.html
These guys might be a good choice as well: http://www.ascendtech.us/
You should still expect to have to open the thing up and re-attach the fan that's flopping around, and the like, but even with that, it'll save you a lot of time, and maybe some money.

Re:The agenda to kill copyrights and patents
Why would I want that BD-R junk when this is the same price and rewriteable?

Re:What about write speed?
That drive in the link is 500GB, NOT 1.5TB, and refurbished.
The only drive that is 1.5TB is $119 USD http://3btech.net/sebalowpo159.html -
Re:Tradeoff?
Why carry it? Just install a flatscreen monitor and waterproof keyboard, and a wall-mounted box running VNC or something. In fact, if you just want to read the news, all you need is a web browser.

The real trick to rooms with few power outlets is:
Buying several 4 socket UPS units and putting them on each real socket(2 per outlet), except for perhaps one you run a mini-fridge off of. Then, most of the power fuctuations you're going through are buffered by that capacitor+battery system, and in the off chance a breaker does blow, only the fridge will shut off. You also get hella good protection for your electronics as far as surge protection goes.
You can get 5-6 socket ones for $39 on pricewatch. Its well worth it. And when you do blow a breaker, all the UPS's will "sing" to you as my girlfriend calls it.
In any case, you should get renters insurance no matter HOW you use your electronics in your room. You neighbors aren't being that safe, and can destroy all your stuff in the blink of an eye.
And I have no clue if the power management this guy has works with linux servers. I don't set that up on any of my computers.
