Amigas
My wife picked my $7500 Toaster/Amiga up over her head and threw it to the floor. Still works.
I should add that a Vectrex can't survive the same treatment.
Amigas and 64s were the only computers that survived Desert Storm. The $10,000 Army PCs didn't last a week.

The consensus is that
this isn't a very great look at BeOS, especially if you're not familiar with it.

Yeah, CD32
I loved this thing, but the controller sucked, and there was a lot of crappy shovelware. People are still using them for Internet access to this day.

JLG Drops Out
BE DOPER NEWS (BDRN) Jean Louis Gassee, the driving force behind BeOS, the greatest operating system the world has ever known, announced today his intention to "tune in, turn on, and drop the hell out".
"A very strange figure, part genius, part reprehensible madman, approached me in a most John Galt-like fashion", Jean Louis told BeDoper. "He helped me to realize that this tilting at windmills thing sux0rs."
"Basically, this is starting to feel like Exxon all over again. The strain, the pressure, and most of all, the total lack of faith most of the BeOS community has shown have all contributed to my decision. Let's face it: I'm not in this for the money. We're going to gut the best parts of BeOS, and open the damn thing up, I guess. Economic suicide, but I want BeOS to live."
JLG told BeDoper that he planned to make a formal announcement next month. "Why should that Peanuts guy get all the glory? BeOS is about 72x better than Linux. I will be escalated to the role of God the world over, and will spend my time in a huge, world-floating party. And now I can wear my dreadlocks again."
"Oh, sure. We had a lot of big deals lined up that I couldn't talk about. The biggest. But it more or less meant giving up control to people who probably just wanted to squash BeOS, anyway. This way, BeOS lives, and I get to remain a figurehead and troop rallier, like the old days. My only regret is that I couldn't hold out and get my crew pizaid like a mizo."

BeOS is Dying
*BeOS is dying
Yet another crippling bombshell hit the beleaguered *BeOS community when last month IDC confirmed that *BeOS accounts for less than a fraction of 1 percent of all servers. Coming on the heels of the latest Netcraft survey which plainly states that *BeOS has lost more market share, this news serves to reinforce what we've known all along. *BeOS is collapsing in complete disarray, as further exemplified by failing dead last [sysadminmag.com] in the recent Sys Admin comprehensive networking test.
You don't need to be a Kreskin [amdest.com] to predict *BeOS's future. The hand writing is on the wall: *BeOS faces a bleak future. In fact there won't be any future at all for *BeOS because *BeOS is dying. Things are looking very bad for *BeOS. As many of us are already aware, *BeOS continues to lose market share. Red ink flows like a river of blood. FreeBeOS is the most endangered of them all.
Let's keep to the facts and look at the numbers.
OpenBeOS leader Theo states that there are 7000 users of OpenBeOS. How many users of BeOS Pro are there? Let's see. The number of OpenBeOS versus BeOS Pro posts on Usenet is roughly in ratio of 5 to 1. Therefore there are about 7000/5 = 1400 BeOS Pro users. BeOS/OS posts on Usenet are about half of the volume of BeOS Pro posts. Therefore there are about 700 users of BeOS/OS. A recent article put FreeBeOS at about 80 percent of the *BeOS market. Therefore there are (7000+1400+700)*4 = 36400 FreeBeOS users. This is consistent with the number of FreeBeOS Usenet posts.
Due to the troubles of Be, Inc., abysmal sales and so on, FreeBeOS went out of business and was taken over by Palm who sell another troubled OS. Now BeOSI is also dead, its corpse turned over to yet another charnel house.
All major surveys show that *BeOS has steadily declined in market share. *BeOS is very sick and its long term survival prospects are very dim. If *BeOS is to survive at all it will be among OS hobbyist dabblers. *BeOS continues to decay. Nothing short of a miracle could save it at this point in time. For all practical purposes, *BeOS is dead."

Distraught Sandwich Boy Rams Cart Into Be, Inc.
Palo Alto, California - Operating system jihadist "Sandwich Boy" struck terror in the hearts of Silicon Valley this week as he piloted a heavily-laden sandwich cart into Be, Inc. headquarters.
"It was horrific", said an eyewitness to the incident. "There were buns, coldcuts, and even non-kosher hotdogs everywhere." Pandemonium ensued following the incident. Traffic on the cross-streets was at a stand-still, until the traffic light changed.
As the would-be terrorist was taken into custody, he issued a statement: "I'm coming for you next, Sony! And if Palm doesn't release BeOS Pro 6, they will also be targeted for "sandwiching". I paid $100 for BeOS Pro 5, I want my $110 million dollar update!"
Although the 50 remaining BeOS users were disturbed by the attack, many secretly supported Sandwich Boy's attempt. Jean-Louis Gassee and Steve Sakoman remain in hiding, fearing further retribution from the cell of cultists which is rumored to exist using BeShare as a base of operations.
Insurance agents estimate the damage at "under a dollar".

They need to take it a step or two further
A camera and keying unit added to the headset would let you map the video onto a wall, or inside a small dome, for an Omnimax experience. A standalone wireless PC could drive a killer augmented reality game system. Here's a paper I wrote about this sort of thing a few years ago, since Slashdot won't link it:
Toward Ultimate Reality. Abstract: This study explores various uses of virtual reality goggles in conjunction with consumer level items: color cameras, video effects, luminance keying and videotape, in an effort to ascertain what is feasible at the present time regarding consumer and industrial applications. As a measure toward eventual home theater display prospects, the viability of keying video into a see-through head-mounted display to form a virtual, wall-sized television will be determined. Another portion of the research will attempt to communicate aspects of the psychedelic experience into electronic form.

Re:There's a lot of /. talk about open-sourcing it
If any of you leet hax0rs can get Linux to work with OpenTracker, and make the underlying bits a bit more cool, like BeOS is, the two togther would own the computing desktop forever. But most of you only bitch about it not being Open Source, when you can't actually hack at the kernel level...
Be, Inc. Readies BeOS XP
Sooo much nicer than KDE or Gnome...
