There's a wealth of information from various sources all presenting their sides to the "argument", but one thing I see over and over again is that from an engineering or technical position it is not really possible. 2. What IS the definitive story on how much of a problem cell phones are to the flight deck? It seems likely that common phones cause ticking and buzzing over radio networks, I hear it all the time. And it's highly likely that many pilots have sensitive hearing and can't stand having to hear noise when it's fairly important that they have a clear line for several hours of having vinyl bagels on their head. And it seems just as likely that cell phones would interfere with the workings of autopilot and other really highly technical matters that I know next to nothing about. But if they do so, I think it's a really valid question to ask, why haven't they been banned outright for the last twenty five years?
