Re:Apple IIGS
Umm, there's a TCP/IP stack and a 10Mbps ethernet card (granted, Marinetti doesn't play nice with the ethernet card, but it WILL play nice with a modem). It's got Internet capabilities. WP software? That's why there's OSS - keeps platforms from dying completely off.

Don't forget the Apple ][
Well, not really, the LANceGS has been available for over three years. It works with an Enhanced ][e or IIgs, although there are no apps for the ][e that use the interface. FWIW, Apple had created an ethernet card for the IIgs to be released with System 6 (GS/OS) but killed it at the last minute so as to not have the IIgs compete with the Macintosh LC.

Re:Not the only TCP/IP stack for the IIgs
And at the risk of getting modded down for replying to my own post, I forgot to mention that marinetti also supports the LanceGS, a 10Base-T ethernet card for the IIgs. Don't laugh, it really works!

Apple // community is strong
As if this isn't enough publicity.
The apple 2 community is going pretty strong.
We have a news site a2central.com
We have a community at syndicomm.com
We have a quarterly magazine juiced.gs
We have a compact flash reader, ethernet boards, and hard drive controllers are still being manufacuted.
There is still software being released and old products for sale (see a2central.com). -
Re:IIgs compatible?
There're already IDE Hard Disk controllers for the AppleIIgs (and looks like for the IIe too). This one "allows the use of _all_ kinds of IDE hard drives with Apple II computers", so I bet it would work with compact flash cards if you get a normal CF to IDE adapter too.
If you're into tricking out your IIGS, then checkout the LANceGS Ethernet Card. It looks so sweet!

Re:C'mon! If they can run a webserver on a PIC...I'd be interested in seeing if anyone's made a TCP/IP stack for the 8bit Apple ][ line. It'd have to be bare-bones, and there would be precious little RAM for your httpd (unless you had 128k and ran some of the code out of the aux RAM)
... I assume ProDOS taking up the language card area, tho there's no reason (other than lack of interrupt handling) that DOS3.3 can't be used insteadA IIgs, otoh, could most likely run as a web server without much trouble. It'd be painful going pushing the data out the serial, unless you get a LANceGS card for it.

It is possible!
Well with an Apple IIgs anyway. There is a TCP/IP stack for its OS. Somebody even developed an ethernet card for the machine! Expensive but pretty cool. Just imagine chatting to people via AIM from your 15 year old Apple II hooked up to your broadband internet connection.
