Re:I picked up a DS for my little one this Christm
I haven't looked into it yet (my daughter just got her DS for Christmas, and it's hard enough resisting the urge to pop in Advance Wars whenever it's unused), but looking here and elsewhere, I can't help but think that the bootloading equipment might be more convient but not exactly necessary... Downloading a homebrew through your laptop's wireless into your DS seems less seedy.
To the grandparent, official development isn't even a possibilty on your own unless you've got 20,000 and a decent portfolio of some sort. :) -
Re:Notes & Questions?
There's also a wifi utility that allows you to broadcast small (approx 4 meg) ROMS for DS download play. It requires a wireless card with a certain chipset. I flashed my DS this way without using a passkey and it was a breeze. The trick is, it only works on older systems as I'm told. The cool thing is, you can wirelessly dump data to unmodded DSes with this. The other big advantage is that you can buy the card, use the utility and return it to the store for a refund and you won't have to wait for anything in the mail.

Re:Atleast it is not Microsoft aquiring them
That's ironic, considering you can actually use a Linsys WMP54G wireless card to hack your Ninendo DS.

Re:It's Amazing that's why!
You might want to try Aaron Rogers's tutorial as a starting point. Links there to getting homebrew devkits and WiFiMe.
I haven't actually got any further than downloading a devkit yet, but I'm off to my local wifi card emporium tonight to try and get a WiFiMe-compatible card. -

Re:NintendoNintendo has a more forgiving, devoted following than similar brands. It's not surprising that they're getting props on
/.Besides, inasmuch as they're not big into open source, and (like PSP) use proprietary media, it's easy enough to buy a dev kit/cart and either create your own games or pirate theirs.
