Re:Adblock Extension
I had the same problems on RC1, but this post on the adblock forum sorted it:

Re:Adblock?
The default adblock version does work to block ads, but clicking the Adblock button in the lower right shows nothing, and should show all the blockable elements. There's a new dev build (0.5.2.054) at the Adblock Forums which seems to work better for me with Firefox 1.5rc1.

Re:The other end of the "Social Contract"There is no social contract between myself and the 3rd party web server that is serving advertisement on the web site that I am visiting. When I visit CNET, I'm looking for technology news, not content from doubleclick. When I read articles at other news sources, I'm not looking for scripts linking poorly selected keywords in the copy with mostly irrelevant extraneous party material.
Any argument for a social contract based on the convention of following all content links mentionned in an HTML document is flawed on two fronts. First, historically, originally, in the text-based Lynx and predecessors worlds, no link was ever followed unless the user specifically chose to do so. Second, the convention to download all content mentionned in a modern HTML document is based on the web client needing all content to properly render the page for the user, not on any feeling of responsibility towards the host.
Adblock, when it comes down to it, is a fine-tuning tool for Firefox - it allows me to be selective about which URLs I'm going to follow, instead of blindly following all the links on a page, reclaiming a portion of the choice that did exist in the past.
As an Adblock user, I may be breaking TOS for some "free" web based email accounts. Actually, I probably am. And I probably am costing some people some money. But not many - having sworn off credit cards, my total online purchases remain at nil. So when it comes down to it, I'm doing my small part to reduce the bandwidth charges to some large advertizing companies!
Oh, and Adblock has recently been hacked to add support for whitelisting sites, which lets you let through ads from the sites you want to see ads from:

Yeah, guess what... Adblock has been blocked .

Adblock
I noticed a distinct increase in stability on OSX since I started using Adblock. I tend to surf with a single window loaded with up to 40 tabs, and it works like a charm. The frequent crashes of older versions are now history for me, although I still keep the habit of periodically saving a tab group bookmark just in case.
If you're new to Adblock, remember that for it to actually do something you'll have to configure some filters . I tend to use these regularly updated filters). -
Re:Spread the love!--No
Well, it's not hard to sort your bookmarks. Just click bookmarks, then manage bookmarks, and then right click on any link and select "sort by name". There's also a plugin called "sort bookmarks" that does this and more.
Regarding the importing of passwords, the mozilla site says:
"Firefox imports your existing settings from Internet Explorer. An import wizard will run when you first install Firefox (and is also available later through the File menu, File > Import), and it imports your Favorites, options, cookies, stored passwords, and a variety of other data. This saves you time customizing Firefox to fit your needs."
I haven't tried using this but if this didn't work as advertised for you then that is certainly a cause for concern.
If you don't like the spinning circle at the top you can simply install another theme that doesn't feature this. Right now the mozilla site is really slow so you probably won't be able to reach the themes site, so try later.
Personally I could not live without tabbed browsing so IE is no longer an option for me. Also there are plugins like Adblock (I use these filters) that make it indispensible for me. -
Re:Don't forget to check out the extensions:
For those of you looking for effective Adblock filters, I recommend giving Filterset.G a try - the people over at the Adblock Project Forum like it quite a bit.

Re:Ssshhhhhhh. (Have you tried AdBlock?)
Try the filters listed here. They block most ads for most people and very little else. The only one I've found a problem with is IMP...it has a "redirect.php" script that it runs on login which triggers one of the filters. I think there should be an adblock exclution list. It's actually interesting how popular adblock has remained even though there hasn't been a major update since at least Firefox 0.7...
I would think someone would have designed a new extention with more bells and whistles. -
missing adblock
any article about firefox that doesn't mention adblock and the best filters to use is seriously lacking.

Here's a good primer.
