Re:Pointless Discussion
Its a cycle, it got the good games, sold systems, which in turn enticed game developers to create more games for the system. Its like a a perpetual motion device. This must be how Matt Damon feels when he approaches a blank sheet of paper!

Re:This is perpetual motion in another guise..
That might explain this phenomenon!

This is technically a bit off topic, but I really like: http://achewood.com

Re:Hmmmm. No Sluggy?
It was sorta, at one point. been wandering in the wilderness since "Fire & Rain" and was rendered unreadable by Kitten II.
I think it is not rad at all that I have seen no references to Achewood yet. WHAT THE HELL PEOPLE? -
Books vs. Strips
The article is also mixing comic books and comic strips. Sure, stuff like Dilbert , User Friendly, The Boondocks, and Achewood work well on the web. They're short and easy to read. Most people who read comic books, however, relish the strip to the store, holding it in their hands, filling up the long white boxes...

My favorite webcomix site at the moment is
serializer.net. They strike a tone that finds that sweet spot between art, commercialism, and the necessary self-awareness of a frontier market/nascent medium. Also, they've got exclusive comix by two of my favorite artists, Ethan Persoff and Chris Onstad.

When in Rome...
As long as people are randomly promoting other webcomics (shamelessly, I might add) in this thread, I thought I'd toss in my two cents:
Achewood
My New Fighting Technique is Unstoppable
Also, if anyone knows what happened to the author of the Larry the Cow comics (the guy that supposedly hassled the Gentoo mailing list for 'stealing' his poorly drawn cow face to use as their logo), reply. Those comics were damned funny. They used to be located here. -
Web comics worthy of attention
First, a quick disclaimer: I have no personal or financial interest in any of these. I own no stock in Adobe or Wacom. Consarnit, I can't even draw.
One of the best comics on Modern Tales are Patent Pending, a drama that is drawn by the same guy who does the comedy Goats (which is free). Two other awe-inspiring MT strips are Makeshift Miracle and American Born Chinese, the former for its art and the latter for its psychological insight.
Three free strips deserving of special mention are Wigu, Achewood, and Scary-Go-Round.
Note that none of these strips concern teenagers who play video games. Hope that's not too much of a disappointment for anyone.

this is frontpage /. news?
Ok, does Megatokyo have that large of a following here @
/. ??
Because amongst other webcomics:
Goats Is currently at Comicon putting out a second book.
Achewood is finishing up the polishing touches on a book.
Cat and Girl has a book going out.
As do a whole slew of others. Why don't they get mentioned??
