Re:Licence versus Freedom
One would think that would make the front page, but nope. Went into submission limbo.
It made the front page, you didn't pay attention. Try to do better next time.
Wrong. It didn't make the front page. Someone's attempt to shoehorn it into an interview on being a woman in tech made the front page, with ESR's post mentioned as a weird random aside -- a month after the fact.
ESR's claims were the story.
Instead, Slashdot went for an interview with someone about what they felt about that story.
Because remember, when the founder of Linux and arguably one of the most important figures in Open Source is apparently the target of a misandric hate-hob attempting to frame him for attempted rape, accusations of which are brought forth by one of the other most important figures in Open Source, the important thing to do is not report on that, and instead ask someone what they think about it instead.
Lets also not forget that Sarah Sharp, one of the people on the board of the Feminist group apparently attempting to frame Linus, was the one who had a very public (and very faked) fainting couch moment when Linus apparently blocked their attempts to frame him by never being alone, claiming he was mean on the LKML and being mean on a mailing list is the same as physical violence. At which point it stops being just "Oh look ESR is crazy" and more "Oh look, there's an organized effort to drive Linus off the project."
You didn't pay attention. Try to do better next time.

Re:Licence versus Freedom
Remember that time when Torvalds joked about Greg Kroah-Hartman being a huge dude and some crazy harpy absolutely flew off the handle with a rude reply screeching about Torvalds making violent threats, and media pushing that exact narrative even though it was obviously false? Yeah, no attempts at character assasination there, no sir.
That harpy is Sarah Sharp. She's on the board of the Feminist organization who was apparently trying to frame Linus.

Re:Anonymous rape claims
its like 4chan, for rape.
But seriously, as soon as I saw the ada initiative on there, i knew it was bullshit. Selena Deklemann herself tried to entrap me once as an enemy of feminsts, by trying to cajoule me into going to meet her behind the florist dumpster alone, and after i repeatedly refused accused me of harassing her at Open Source Bridge.
Then there is the matter that the founder of the ada initaitive, which is also listed in there, currently has a federal case open for a false rape claim against her husband, among others that she has made over the years to others, except for the fact that she killed herself over the issue. Schwern vs Plunkett
Wasn't the Ada Initiative dissolved in Oct after they couldn't find a new Executive Director? http://adainitiative.org/2015/...

Decisive feminista forum shutsdown ..
The main initiative being a call for women only program spaces (to save their delicate sensibilities from rude male criticism) and discrediting male developers at conferences. This is when they're not emailing round the 'community' to try and get developers fired. I don't know of any male developer who organized an email campaign against a female developer in retaliation for a post on a blog. That would be Valerie 'nutjob' Aurora, good fucking riddance is all I say.
.. women often face harassment both online and in person. Hundreds of women took GitHub and Ada Initiative up on the offer and have made hundreds of commits, showing that women in open source see the value of a chance to learn in a supportive private environment before joining the wider community." -
Re:Good
The Ada Initiative is a hardcore feminist organisation whose conference guidelines were used to justify the expulsion and subsequent firings of two engineers in the donglegate debacle. Despite claiming to be non violent, apparently they aren't bothered by suggestions to hand out the S.C.U.M. Manifesto at conferences - that would be the Society For Cutting Up Men - whose deranged author had attempted to murder Andy Warhol.
You think that a comment with no replies means that the organization isn't bothered by it? If you're not a hypocrite, go read Slashdot at -1, and make those same accusations about the crowd here.
They were also responsible for shutting down a well known and respected speaker at another conference.
... who was going to give a talk about sex, rape, and the use of drugs to obviate consent, at a computer security conference. And it wasn't the Ada Initiative that "shut it down", but rather, the conference organizer decided to shut it down because 'the talk included "discussion of date rape drugs"'. In fact, contrary to your accusation, the Ada Initiative suggested ways that the speaker could still make the presentation, specifically doing a video of the talk or as an after-con talk. As the organizer states, "I have since reached out to Violet about recording her talk so we can put it up on our video site."
These sorts of parasitic strident supremacist organisations aren't helping women, they're actively trying to damage men, and the sooner they are revealed for what they are the better.
Along with hypocrites and those who misrepresent facts, yes.

These sorts of parasitic strident supremacist organisations aren't helping women, they're actively trying to damage men, and the sooner they are revealed for what they are the better. The extent to which this diseased movement has made its way into many parts of society will, for future generations, become a matter for horrified fascination, an education in mass institutionalised fraud and hysteria, an object lesson in the ease with which a moral panic can be raised.
And don't even bother with accusations of misogyny. Seriously, it's a sad and transparent attempt to shame the voices of truth into silence.

Re:genitals don't code, and Linus doesn't know my
"Everybody knows boys will be boys." Bullshit. Treating creepy, gross, harassing behavior as somehow normal, and that "everybody knows" it'll happen just perpetuates it. Not acceptable.
Read some of the horror stories from DEFCON 20. Whether or not you're there to get laid, none of that shit's acceptable, period.

Ada Initiative is Anti-Feminist and Anti-Hacker
From the Ada Initiative's own statement on this:
Simply put, even the world’s most pro-woman, sex-positive, pro-consent talk about sex is likely to have negative effects on women at a technical conference.
More simply put: "Any talk of sex at a technical conference is bad m'kay, because a rape survivor might get offended."
Sorry, but covering the ears and mouths of others to suppress information YOU DON'T LIKE is against feminism since it presumes that women are too fragile to handle sexuality in a positive and adult manner, is sexist to men since it presumes that the mere talk of sex, no matter the content of message of purpose will push some men to rape or "give women bad sexual experiences".
And how many of these men would attend this fabled "Conference on Sexuality" where Violet Blue's talk would be "on topic"? I predict none.
So a chance to raise awareness, engage, inform and encourage healthy debate has been lost because one group with a very clear agenda decide that no one t a "Tech Conference" should be able to be so educated and informed on subjects they feel are harmful based solely on their own ideals. The Ada Initiative should be wholeheartedly shunned by the tech circles who value freedom of information and freedom of choice for being counter to the very principles upon which their culture is formed. This is a culture based on curiosity, exploration, boundary pushing and self-education -- we don't need Ada Initiative telling us where or how to educate ourselves or dictating what topics are "safe".

Re:So, this is some hippie slap-fight, right?
Instead of sounding off like an idiot, you should read the response by Ada to the controversy. Ada foundation was perfectly reasonable in making a recommendation they were ASKED to make given the limited information that was available to them.
When the talk was canceled, there was only the title to go by:
From the link:
Background
The computer security conference BSides SF (held in San Francisco on 24â"25 February 2013) invited Violet Blue [note: sexual imagery at link] to give a talk, subject to be determined. The title of the talk was listed on the conferenceâ(TM)s online schedule as âoeTBDâ until a small number of hours before the talk, when it was updated to âoesex +/- drugs: known vulns and exploitsâ
In computer security jargon âoevuln[erabilitie]s and exploitsâ are respectively weaknesses in computing and related systems, and ways to take advantage of them in order to break into or âoepenetrateâ the system. The precise meaning of the title is ambiguous, but to people familiar with the jargon, a reasonable interpretation of the title might include using drugs to exploit someone into having sex without consent (i.e., rape).
The abstract of the talk was not available until after the decision to cancel the talk, and does not reflect the same topic as the title of the talk suggests.
Or, are you a right-wing republican rapist? Yeah, your comment is just as stupid.

The Ada Initiative
One of my favourite geek charities is the Ada Initiative which provides resources and training for women in open source and open culture.
Needless to say, you should speak directly to any charity you're seriously considering; they'll often have good suggestions for how they money could be used.
Good luck!
